It looks they are almost finished with the redo. There was scaffolding surrounding the entire lighthouse. it looks as thought the exterior is being redone.

After we ate lunch at Los Cobos, we checked out this beautiful old lighthouse. Even with the construction work going on, it was still a thing of beauty. J

Lighthouse is being worked on. That s ok. Very foggy and that's OK too. It's 70 degrees better then 37 degrees and snow..we are on vacation from Fort Wayne IN... Padre Island is paradise with fog today!

Someone recommended we go up the lighthouse in the morning vs. the afternoon, and we were glad we had taken their advice. It still was pretty warm, even at 9 a.m.The climb included narrowing stairs and a completely vertical ladder, so is not for those whose mobility is limited.

Historical lighthouse worth a stop. Light-keeper's house nearby and a cute little square. Can walk up to the top for a view.

A nice chance to see history (of the old light house) and its nice views of the surrounding area; bay and gulf. The railing on the balcony level is soon to be under reconstruction so you can only go all the way up to the top. It is kind of a small area that is enclosed in glass but does... More

This is the 1st lighthouse we have ever visited, so it was worth stopping to see & taking the time to do. It is so hot at the top that you can't stay but a minute before leaving. We snapped a few pictures & left. Would be best to do on a cool cloudy day.

It is worth it to go all the way up in the lighthouse. There is an admission to get in (very cheap). When you get to the top, the views are really breathtaking, you can take the best pics of port Isabel, the bridge and South Padre Island in the background.

We were in Port Isabel on a rainy day so we weren't able to climb the lighthouse. The staff at the Visitors' Center could not have been friendlier or more helpful! They explained why we couldn't go into the lighthouse but encouraged us to read the history of the lighthouse that was displayed in the Center. They explained where the... More
