So let down. Came here because of the shelling and pristine beach. Couldn't be farther from what I read and pictures I saw. Wasted $ 12.00.

We have been going to St. Joe's Island (no one calls it San Jose) since 1970s. We came two weeks after July 4 weekend and it was prettier than I've ever seen it. The beach was all but deserted, compared to Port A which was...More

We packed a picnic and headed to the island. What a wonderful day playing in the sand, looking for shells and watching the boats come in to port. It's a must do event!

We say pictures of beaches full of seashells, when actually what we saw was a beach full of trash. There are no facilities here. The fishing wasn't successful, but a storm was causing lots of waves and may have effected this. If you want privacy,...More

My sister and I rode the boat over to San Jose Island from Port Aransas June '17. It's a $12/person ride. I had read several reviews about how fantastic it was and good place for shelling. Ugh! It was the worst waste of our time...More

If you're looking for a "trash free" island, don't go! Most of the beach is clean, but it's a private island so not kept. You can find shells and cool stuff that has washed up on shore including an antique medicine bottle. I have found...More

a totally natural habitat; good shelling. enjoyed laying in the sun while the kids played in the waves! Short ferry ride, saw a few dolphins playing in the bay.

Yes and yes. We took our dog and he had a great time jumping into the waves. Just bag the trash and you can put it in the dumpsters on the Port Aransas side.
