I thought the Temple of Poseidon was a must see if you have extra days in Athens. It's easy enough to take a bus there, experience the sea route, and imagine what it would have been like in the days of the ancient Greeks to traverse the distance. Sounion was a significant strategic point for Athens to control the sea... More

Most people come by tour bus from Athens but it's a total rip-off to pay 40 Euros to get a bus ride to this sight and then a bus ride back. You might as well as take an Uber.

Visiting the Temple of Poseidon and part of a full tour we did in Athens. It was an hour and a half bus ride from Athens but totally worth it. The tour guide gave us a full story and background on it so it made the visit that much better. Definitely a must when touring Athens along with the Acropolis.

The view from the cape is amazing. We booked a private coastal tour in Sounio and arrived in the Temple in less than an hour. The Temple is dedicated to Poseidon- the God of Sea according to the ancient Greeks- and it's standing on a cliff.

Once you pay for the entrance, you can actually enjoy not just the temple but tremendous view to the mediterranean sea, the same one as greek people had few thousand years back. It's almost unbelieveble, how they could live there, how they had to figure out urbanism of this place and everything. We managed to get to the rocky beach... More

It was sunny and windy when we got there by car from Athens, it's a 1 hour and a half drive from the center (Panepistemio) The entrance was free for me as I'm a French student ( it's free for students from E.U countries if you have your student ID with you), otherwise it's 6 euros regular price. The temple's... More

If you admire so much Greece and its heritage, sure it is a place to go. However, if you are mainly in Athens and are an average tourist, I think it does not make sense to do such a trip to see this temple. If you are around and want to see it, the entrance is 8 euros.

As part of our tour from a cruise ship we went here before Athens. I think I enjoyed this more. Less crowded, cooler, much better views, and the Temple is better preserved than what we saw on the Parthenon. Highly recommended!

The best half day trip you can do out of Athens or combine it with a swim and lunch or dinner at a seaside fish tavern!! You can also enjoy the view of the most beautiful sunset! Anyone wanting to escape Athens for an afternoon should definitely consider the Cape Sounio excursion, on the southernmost tip of Attica.

Easy access - comfortable to drive from Glyfada (so probably other cities the same). Good restaurants to eat dinner after sunset (down the road, 2-3km from the Temple). As far as Temple is concerned: 8euro fee (adult), impressive and well maintained. We took beautiful pictures with the light of sunset. There is also nice view for the bay bellow: sailing... More
