I want to be in the STAAR Family!

I love doing things in the offseason, and this house and estate is the perfect example why. We were the only ones on the tour., which was led by the estate manager. She had so much insight into The Life and Times of the Starr Family, and you could tell that this restoration was her passion. Just hearing about all... More

I have been trying to get to the new kitchen/return to the old kitchen. I have been able to visit the Stars House 3 times. I always enjoy the trip.

So much history in this picturesque Marshall, TX estate. The guide was very understandably passionate about this lovely and meticulously restored Greek revival home. Take the time to go off highway and see this Texas historical jewel. It won't disappoint.

The history of the Starr family is amazing. At one time they owned one million acres in Texas. They built their wealth after the Civil War which wasn't easy and moved to Marshall in 1870 for the start of the new RR. Several of the original homes are on this property to tour including Maplecroft. If you like stories about... More

Make sure they take you outside! They may not always, so ask if they don't. It's very shady out there and more history of the kids playing outside as well as the little school house.

Historical home of the Starr Family - Much of the furnishings are original to the house and its owners - Ongoing restoration of part of the home. The docent was very knowledgeable and the visit was fun!

we enjoyed touring this old house. The tour guide did a wonderful job in explaining how the family lived in this residence and made us feel we were there while the family resided there. a very interesting place

We stopped for the morning in Marshall and had the best time! By chance we found this lovely home and feel so thankful we did! We got there first thing in the morning and were lucky enough to get a customized private tour. Our guide was outstandingly knowledgable and really brought the lives of this family to life! :) It... We stopped by the Starr home and enjoyed the tour by a knowledgeable guide. The story of the family was explained clearly. I would recommend any visitor to Marshall take some to explore the home and its furnishings. Previous reviews seem to reference a time when the site was under the control of Texas Parks and Wildlife. There isn't a... More

This is a state historic SITE, not a park, although the grounds are pretty and park-like. [It's easy to get confused on that; there are lots of historic SITES in Texas so always best to make sure if you are really looking for a full-blown PARK]. For only $4 we got a pleasant tour of this home which unlike many... More
