We arrived at around 3pm on a weekday and were told that the only thing available for us to do was walk around the field with Donald Judd's concrete blocks. Then the receptionist implored us, with a completely straight face, to please not "interact with...More

Just a breathtaking facility and a definite bucket list item if art is a part of your world. Prepare to spend a few hours here.

I finally made the drive to Marfa to see what all the fuss was about and I'm so glad that I did. Chinati was one of a kind. Very friendly people and the location was huge. You could spend an afternoon walking around.

....Odd, to be sure.... Donald Rudd was the inspired artist who planted the seeds of this now, famous, Marfa, "art destination"--- we had fun walking the fields of cement boxes---then later, touring the 100 aluminum boxes and later still, the old hospital reconstruction with the...More

I live in Marfa, but I never tire of visiting Donald Judd's Chinati. The newest addition as work by Robert Irwin is wonderful.

Edit that to read saves the town! Much can be read about the man, the myth, and his magic. Tours of his art are well worth the considerable effort required to get to this tiny town in the high desert of Far West Texas. His...More
