Delve around the secret underground world of a Welsh slate mine, with one of Wales' top Mine Explorers; abandoned and forgotten yet full of relics, stories & adventure. Our trips take you into parts of the mine, hand-dug and worked by Victorian miners in 1836 and areas worked up until the 1970s when the mine was abandoned. As the door shut for the very last time a virtual time capsule was left behind which you can now explore. After years of research, our top Mine Guide will share stories of mining life as you explore the underground with some climbing and scrambling if you wish (these parts of the trip are optional). All of our trips run with a small group of explorers which means that we can largely tailor make them to suit your wishes, interests and abilities and those of the other members of your group. You'll discover old mining tools, machinery, drinking vessels, candles and cigarette packs discarded by the miners whilst stories of life in the mine spill out in such a way you can almost feel it creaking back to life. 100% authentic, adventurous and fun. During the trips you're taken into the dark, damp tunnels and underground workings, in small exclusive groups by the experienced guide. There are 2 trips to choose from; the 2 hour Explorer Trip or a Half Day Mine Expedition. In addition we offer a Taster Trip for younger explorers and for those who'd like to try it out first.

There are many mines now as tourist attractions across the UK but this is not really a tourist attraction because this mine is un-spoilt and left abandoned as it was when it closed. No special effects or electronic thrills or lights. You get a guide...More

What a start to the day. We had read the information on the website the night before and left with plenty of time to arrive 20 minutes before the tour began. It seemed everything was against us (traffic, caravans, etc) needless to say the SatNav...More

Explorer ticket was bought as a gift for my husband - and very well received. The guide was excellent and so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Downside was the unforgivable rudeness of the woman in the shop who had to book us in.More

The four of us (two adults; two teenagers) did the 1 hour taster. It was wonderful. Could not fault a thing. Mark made it. He gauged our interests and tailored the walk through the mine accordingly. In just an hour, we saw lots and learned...More

Hi there, just curious about the description that says narrow ledges that require you to clip on...how challenging are these? I'm debating between the 1 hour and 2 hour, and most reviews recommend the two but I recently tried a tree top trek that involved clipping on and walking along ledges and was really scared! thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer.
