Great history. The staff includes men and women who served during the Korean War. Beautiful place with a place to walk and a museum with a movie.

If we had been on the ball, we would have visited the Museum a week earlier when there was a special commemoration. But even so, we learned a lot about the history of Iwo Jima. I never realized that a seemingly easy to conquer little island, was so hard won. I was a young girl in a Japanese concentration camp... More

My wife and I have been wintering in Southeast Texas, in Weslaco, Tx. for the last 4 years. We met a couple at our resort this year and they mentioned they would like to see the IWO JIMA Monument. We told them we had been to it a couple of times and would be happy to take them. So off... More

This is so informative. The number of lives lost on both sides astonishing. So sad. So afraid we have more wars to come. But will the future wars be for such a just cause? We can only hope so.

The battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest in the war, with more than 6,800 American and 23,000 Japanese casualties. Of the six soldiers shown on Rosenthal's picture and later, represented in this sculpture, only three survived the war. This monument is the original plaster working model. The Memorial site is surrounded by green areas, a small museum... More

I'm ashamed to say I didn't know much about Iwo Jima and the battle to take possession of it before our trip to this museum, but I do now. The video that is shown provides a wealth of information. The gentleman who talked to the guests before and after the film gave interesting additional information about the battle, the monument,... More

The first thing that struck me about this is how absolutely HUGE the statue is! It is so incredibly well done, from the moment you enter the memorial area - stop to listen to some history about what you are about to see. Be sure to see the beautifully manicured landscaping surrounding the sculpture as well as all of the... More
