Why is Cinco De Mayo celebrated?
Feb 2021
We learned so much visiting this site! Goliad is the birthplace of one of the most famous Mexico hero’s; his successful defeat of the French army is what is celebrated every May. The info graphic signs are in both English and Spanish and though its a lot of reading we found ourselves really drawn into the story of the area.

It’s been a couple weeks since we visited Goliad and this is particular site still is on my mind. Really well done and it’s FREE.

Great little museum
Feb 2021
This was a great little museum that is packed to the rafters with information. We had the entire place to ourselves when we visited and took our time there. There is a lot to learn in this small building! Stop in and read up on why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

This was a pleasant surprise. I did not know this was on the grounds of the Presidio.
It was great to add this to our tour.

Well put together
Sep 2020 • Family
This small museum is well put together, but is really more of a museum with plaques that you read about Ignacio Zaragoza’s life and involvement in the Mexican Government and military than a historic house to see how he lived. The adults read the plaques, but other than a respite in the air conditioning from the heat, my small son was bored. It is interesting to imagine where you are standing being a part of Mexico in another time.

A lot in a small area
Feb 2020 • Couples
Visited as part of a trip to the area. The building is small by today’s standards but I’m sure huge back then. We were amazed at the amount of information they had in there, even mentioning the French army.
Well worth visiting, a good job by whoever organized it.

A well restored piece of Texas history
Oct 2019
If you're into history - Texas or otherwise - this place in interesting. I've lived in Texas for 30+ years but did not attend school here so did not take Texas history. Learned a lot from the exhibits here. The site has been well restored and is not super busy. Spent a pleasant October afternoon here. Well restored.

CLOSED for RENOVATIONS
Mar 2019 • Couples
We visited here during the 34th Annual Reenactment and Living History Program Weekend only to find this structure closed to the public due to structure renovations. No notice as to when it will be reopened to the public.

Intriguing

This building was very nice to see. It gives you an idea of what it was like during those times, and I enjoyed learning Mexican history, too. This is worth seeing at least once.

Cinco de maya
Mar 2018 • Couples
Finally a decent explanation of the root of this annual celebration. It makes perfect sense and is a fine tribute to the man who defended Mexico from the French invasion. Lots of history here.
