Love Texas history? Don’t miss this park!
Aug 2021
What a wonderful park this is! It was very quiet the day we were there. We picnicked on the grounds then headed toward the mission. We were very fortunate to end up spending time with park ranger Hyka. She was amazing. Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of the history of this park brought it alive for us. Her knowledge of the CCC renovation was extensive. It was very hot on the grounds, but the buildings and porch areas are quite breezy and cool. We plan to come back when it’s a little cooler so we can walk the entire grounds.
Don’t miss the gift shop in the ranger headquarters.. lots of cool stuff that was reasonably priced.

I cant get enough of visiting the old missions. I hope to get by them all one day. This one has been rebuilt to perfection. Really liked the museum explaining everything.

Spanish Mission
Jul 2021
This park includes the restored Mission Espiritu Santo as well as hiking trails and camping areas. The museum next to the Church details life in the Spanish missions. Note that while the stone ruins are from the original construction, the church and other buildings are restaured replicas.

Interesting place to learn of Texas history. One of the park rangers gave us a personal tour with some of her knowledge poured in.

Nature and Culture blending perfectly
Mar 2021

We RV camped at this state park and will definitely be back in the future.

The park itself is central to the history of area with a mission on site and trails to visit Fannin’s memorial, the birthplace of General Zaragoza, the Presidio, and the El Camino Real Visitor Center. The staff (including volunteers) were so kind and eager to help us learn. We would suggest giving yourself at least 3 full days in the area to enjoy it to it’s fullest.

Pros for the RV park:
Many camping options (tent/FHU/W&E/Electric only)
Level spots with covered picnic table, grill, fire pit and plenty of room (Jacales area)
Clean bathrooms (they are dated so if you need an accessible bathhouse let the staff know)
San Antonio River Access (can float the river and get picked up elsewhere)
WiFi was good, not meant for frequent use but usable
Verizon (IPhone) coverage was good
Incredible leaf cutter ant activity throughout the park

Cons
Daily entrance fee charge even with RV reservation

On-site there is a the Mission Espiritu santo and the museum; we highly recommend you tour both facilities as they offer an incredible insight to the history of the area. Pay attention to the mural hanging in the museum as it shows the various communities that called this area home.

So much history!!
Feb 2021
Goliad State Park may be small, but there is so much to see here! We spent way longer than we expected at the Mission. It's such a neat place! We met a volunteer that was just a wealth of knowledge on the area, the Mission, and the CCC. We really took our time exploring this area of the park.

After finishing up there, we hiked both of the trails in the park and part of the Angel of Goliad Hike and Bike Trail (only what is in the park). The Angel of Goliad trail actually connects from the Angel of Goliad statue, through the park, and into the town of Goliad. The Aranama Trail is really neat and has some cool bridge areas. That was our favorite trail in the park.

We spent a good deal of time at the bird blind. There were so many birds here and it was wonderful to sit and watch them come and go at the feeders. We really enjoyed our visit here and highly recommend it!

Wow - Texas history that you won’t get in school
Feb 2021 • Solo
We RV’d in the state park. We did not have a car, but you don’t need one because you can walk everywhere, even downtown, which we did.

I am from Texas and did not really know about the immense Texas history in Goliad, Did not get this in school, that is for sure.

Loved the church. Don’t miss Zaragoza Birthplace which did not appear open, but it was.

Nice and well kept. Fee is reasonable and part of the state park well kept secrets. If you are looking for a short historical trip from the city, visit Goliad.
