Beautiful chapel which is part of the Presidio La Bahia. The price of admission includes the presidio (and museum) and the church.

It is interesting to know that this church is still in operations and is providing mass service.. Well kept/restored. Nice Muriel painted in the church.

Beautiful chapel
Mar 2020
This historic chapel is part of the Presidio La Bahia complex and was built to give the soldiers stationed here a place to worship. It was relocated here in 1749. It is one of the oldest churches in America and has continuously held mass here all this time. The Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico was signed on this altar on December 20, 1835. There is a beautiful fresco behind the altar that was painted in 1946 by Antonio Garcia known as "the Michelangelo of South Texas." This is well worth seeing.

Main attraction at Presidio La Bahia, be sure to quietly view!
Oct 2019
We were fortunate to stay at the Quarters at La Bahia within the Presidio La Bahia. Our Lady of Loreto Chapel was just outside the doors of this lovely room. We were able to walk in the Chapel early in the morning before visitors arrived. The Chapel is beautiful and well preserved, well worth your time during your visit. Quiet, peaceful, and a historic place for Texans. The bells chimed during our stay which made it even more peaceful. Take the time to visit when you are in Goliad.

Historical Chapel
Mar 2019 • Couples
Beautiful, historical chapel within the walls of Presidio La Bahia.
This is where Texans where brought and held captive after the battle of Coleto Creek, awaiting their fate at the hands of the Mexican Army. It is now an active church owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Victoria and stands as a memorial to the men who bravely and dutifully manned its defenses in support of their country.

The old chapel of Our Lady of Loreto is a beautiful. We were there just after a wedding which was lovely. Beware of mozzies and the heat.

A beautiful chapel

The building is part of the Presidio and is on the grounds. For just $4 per person you can tour the whole grounds. Parking is free. I recommend coming in the cooler months, before it’s up in the 90-100s every day.

Well-maintained working church
Apr 2018 • Couples
This seems to be an entirely re-constructed church with nothing original from the time of the Texas Revolution. But it is a pleasant little church with an interesting fresco (from the 1940s?) so if you're visiting the Presidio why not stick your head in the door for a quick look.

Very nice example of early worship.

Very nice church located within the Presidio La Bahia. Quite a bit of earlier history involved but it is still an active church. A must stop when visiting Goliad.

Beautiful church
Jan 2017 • Friends
As I mentioned in my review of the Presidio, the church is still a working Catholic church. It has been maintained and repaired for the congregation. The painting in the altar area is relatively recent, but depicts the history of the church when it was new and priests and native Americans were getting to know each other. They have very old carved doors. This is not an easy place for a person in a wheel chair to visit.
