Inside displays. The trains are obviously outside. You can walk through several of the trains to view trail travel of old. One train is even wheelchair accessible. Hope to take my 96 year old uncle next week. He worked on trains when he was young.

As many times as we've visited Galveston, this is the first time touring the Galveston Island Railroad Museum. This was well worth our time.

It's been a decade since I last visited this museum and it had certainly added something for everyone from a great train layout for kids to one of the most complete collections of railroad dining plates and settings I've ever seen in one place. There are also fine train engines and cars to view and walk through as well as... More

This museum is mostly outdoors with old steam trains, freight and passenger cars. Some of it is well kept and some has a nice patina. You can walk through parts of the passenger cars. There is a building devoted to the table wares of the dining cars. It's a lot of fun.

A must do for railroad buffs and will be enjoyed by others too! A huge number of railroad cars to walk thru such a business cars, Pullman sleepers, cabooses and passenger coaches. A few cars have been covered to museum cars filled with displays. One building has a huge display of railroad china and silver, plus a couple large model... More

This is an extensive museum. Allow about three hours to go through to get a full tour. There are many train cars to go through and some are being restored. It is probably one of the largest train museums in the nation. We enjoyed our visit.

We spend a good part of the afternoon looking at the trains and the exhibits. The trains are all outside, so plan according to the weather.

When I was a little girl, this place was the Sante Fe Railroad station. My family actually went there to get our train tickets and travel on trains. It is a thrill to see how wonderfully they exhibit the station. It truly takes me back in time and is realistic...and I know that for a fact. Behind the building are... More

I'm not a train aficionado and only went in because I was wondering what the huge building at the end of the Strand was. This is a massive and nicely detailed Art Deco train station. Even if you don't want to pay for admission, you can still go in and see the lovely train lobby. A great way to get... More
