The State of Texas runs the ferry service from Galveston Island to the Bolivar Peninsula. The ferry is free and generally the wait time is very reasonable. The loading crews are courteous but generally disinterested in their duties. We had some losers who insisted on...More

Except for busy weekends, we prefer the Galveston/Bolivar Peninsular route from Winnie versus the highway route via Houston or Kemah. Kids enjoy the views from upper deck, feeding sea gulls from aft end, and the clean restrooms. Tip: Check website for wait times each way...More

Free, easy to walk on, lots of dolphins. Clean restrooms. Great views. Everyone loved it. Visited on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, minimal wait, not crowded.

If you have children (or not) bring bread to throw to the seagulls, but wear a hat! They aren't trained! ; )

Sorry, I just saw this. Yes, it can be a long wait (45 min.), especially during weekends. I went during the week and there was no waiting at all. There are several ferries running.
How long is the round trip?

It's about twenty minutes each way, plus loading time. If you just want to take a ride, park and walk on the ferry, to save having to drive off and then get back into the line. All vehicles have to get off, and you go to the... More
