I was pleased that Denton County chooses to honor its history and that symbols of that past history still stand on the courthouse lawn. The men and women on both sides of the Civil War fought for various reasons but one of those was defending their homeland.

I'm glad the statute is still there considering the movement to shame all Confederate soldiers. It would be nice if the missing stone cannon ball would be replaced.

I'm a history buff, so I enjoyed seeing it, but it was a tad disappointing. It was smaller than expected and the inscription could be better.

With the plague of Political Correctness spreading like a virulent flu, monuments that dare to display the dreaded "C-word" (Confederate) are under attack. The Denton Confederate Soldier Monument stands where it has since 1918 but has been vandalized more than once and you may see protesters with signs demanding it be removed. But anyone that bothers to learn the actual... More

Years ago, when I first got to Denton, I was a bit shocked about this, until I learned about the history behind it. The majority of men who died fighting for the Confederate army out of Denton were conscribed, ergo, drafted. They did not want to fight, but they did not want to have their homes overrun either. Most of... More

The Confederate Memorial is well worth spending few minutes with while you are strolling around the square and the Courthouse on the Square. From time to time there are always seem to be the unfortunate few who feel that they must damage and protest the existence of this wonderful tribute to the history of Denton County. Accept is for what... More

This memorial has been here long before attending the university back in 1965. It is a part of history and is worth seeing. Some want to change it at the expense of others who would like it to remain.

Sure, times have changed, but those that forget history are likely to repeat it. Besides, this is not in support of racism, slavery, etc...but a memorial to soldiers. The Civil War, although a terrible time in our history, should not be forgotten nor should the core reasons it took place, many of which had nothing to do with the horrible... More

I like this memorial. I know that it is not politically correct and some people want it removed, but it is part of the local history. There is a disclaimer notice, which should be enough.

All the controversy aside, there's just not much to this monument worth seeing. If you are on the square anyway, take a look, but certainly don't come because of it.
