Stopping to soak in the beautiful views along Foothills Parkway and take in a few last deep breaths of the refreshing mountain air is our favorite way to leave our treasured visits to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Great drive just to get away with your own thoughts. Also a fantastic bike ride (if you got the legs for it, which I don't any more :-(

You must see this place at or near sunset. Pull over and watch the beauty over Maryville unfold. There is also a nice hike up to the weather tower with even more breathtaking views. Excellent Motorcycle ride.

Great drive outside of the smokies. Not as crowded as the park but just as pretty. Very well maintained by the park service

Lots of motels close in Townsend and about a half hour drive in either direction to Maysville or Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg. I don't know exactly what amenities you want but tripadvisor would be good place to start checking... More

It has been several years since we visited the Cove and have always enjoyed it. This year my wife and I are planning to visit the park mid week the first week of February. With all the comments about traffic should we expect long lines this time of year?
