Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome.

Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

We visited on New Year's Eve, but the decorations were still up for Christmas and the tour had been modified from its default to focus on how Christmas would have been celebrated throughout the years. The bullet holes on the front porch were interesting and the wine tasting at the end was nice. Scored our tickets through Groupon, so it... More

I find it fascinating to learn how the 1% lived during different periods in our country's history. The home is gorgeous with mostly original furnishings. During the house tour, the history of the plantation, stories of family members and slaves along with the horses that have their own stories are woven together to help you understand how things were when... Wasn't totally into going to this place after many suggested it. Found out it was decorated for Christmas so I decided to give it a chance. Found a Groupon and we went. The house is absolutely perfect, the grounds are beautiful and the history is so rich! The wine was amazing as well!

Wow, this was definitely my favorite plantation on our Nashville tour. The house was lived in from the 1850s-1950s, and so each room had a different style of decoration from several of the decades. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Unlike some other home tours, we were able to go into each room and view the... More

This was a place that all the locals recommended. I would recommend during busier times to book in advance, as the wait for the house tour was a couple hours. The people were all very informative and the grounds were beautiful. The guides give some great stories of past events.

We were fortunate enough to go on a beautiful day in December so we were able to enjoy the grounds and all that the plantation had to offer but I would love to return in the spring. Our tour guide Rod was hysterical and really made our mansion tour a lot of fun!

Wasn't sure what I was getting into, but was really happy we decided to take the tour. The tour guide was awesome and really knew his stuff (he even went out of his way to include my 8 year old daughter which made her feel extra special). The history is so fascinating and with the house being 200 years old,... More

Awesome place! Wine tasting was fun. You can get discounted tickets on Groupon. It is very well run. The guides are knowledgeable and have a good sense of humor. It's worth a trip. Decorations for Christmas are beautiful.

We stopped here on a trip thru Nashville and I'm really glad we did. The grounds are beautiful (even during a rainy, winter day). There is a 45-minute tour of the mansion. Our tour guide, Rob, was extremely knowledgeable. I didn't find the history all that fascinating, but the house was gorgeous and preserved almost exactly as it was in... More

Make sure to make reservations for when you plan to go or go early in the day to buy tickets. The mansion tour was interesting. The tour guide kept us entertained. The wine tasting is included at the end of the tour if you choose. We sampled 4 wines and decided to purchase a few. We were offered other samples... More
