About
When you walk through the doors of historic Ryman Auditorium, one thing becomes clear right away: this isn’t just another nightly music venue, and it’s so much more than a daytime tourist stop. This place is hallowed ground. This is the exact spot where bluegrass was born—where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where souls were saved and a slice of history was nearly lost. It was right here that country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and countless careers took off as deals were signed on napkins and paper scraps backstage. Open daily for tours and shows, right in the heart of Music City.

- MNiceBloomington, Minnesota2,649 contributionsA thrill of a lifetime at the Vince Gill and Amy Grant Christmas ConcertWe flew from Minneapolis to Nashville for an evening with our favorite country tenor and his wife. Obviously so much has been written about one of the most well known venues in the United States. The hard wood pews are difficult to sit on for a two hour concert as mentioned by Vince Gill. Awesome acoustics as you might imagine with the biggest troubadours in country music playing here. Although not outstanding as compared to the modern Grand Ole Opry, the seating is perfectly aligned with few bad seats and a more intimate view of the performers. We lined up in the rain for a security scan that was, well, cursory at best and simply a stumbling device for the old crowd. We foraged our way in past the gift store and closed restaurant into the auditorium. An old time church with wide open spaces and twinkling lights hug all around an open stage with the band’s instruments displayed across the wide space. This place is the holy grail of country music and is over 125 years old. It doesn’t seem like a tour here would be worthwhile as you can pretty much see everything except the dressing rooms. By the way, at intermission the line was long for the bathroom was endless, but went very fast. We left here for a short walk to Allan Jackson’s bar on Broadway where they play authentic country music. It truly was an enchanted night in Nashville and earns its name as the Music City.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 December 2022
- GlennNashville, Tennessee178 contributionsAbsolutely the BEST Christmas show in Nashville. We went to the Vince Gill & Amy Grant Christmas Special at the Ryman and it was the best Christmas show in Nashville hands down. Both (Vince and Amy) did a superb job of entertaining family style and the back up singers and muscians were awsome. It was the highlight of our 2022 Christmas entertainment. We will definitely be back next year with the whole family.Visited December 2022Written 24 December 2022
- MaryannF650Clarksville, Tennessee1,491 contributionsArchitectural delightOur family had an amazing experience here attending the Amy Grant and Vince Gill Christmas Show. It was sensational. Truly an amazing show stopper. Both solo and together, they displayed their gifted talent in a melody of Christmas songs. Ending the evening with the audience participation in Christmas carols was one of the highlights of the show. Amy and Vince paid honor to our Military visitors while thanking the audience for their attendance. The Ryman was fabulously decorated with the best holiday scenes. Staff greeted us with gratitude and greetings for a Merry Christmas. What a wonderful celebration my family had here. Don’t miss visiting the Ryman.Visited December 2022Written 25 December 2022
- roscoe141Methuen, Massachusetts72 contributionsChristmas at The RymanA trip to the cathedral of Country Music. Informative presentations were available but show tickets were hard to come by. Scored two last minute tickets to the Christmas Show starring Amy Grant and the extremely likable Vince Gill.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 December 2022
- Nelson WellsAthens, Georgia7 contributionsSuch an inviting classic for any show. A well oiled machine with terrific staffIt feels so welcoming to go to a venue with such a mature and friendly staff and an obvious professionalism. not to mention, Such an inviting classic concert hall for any show. The Ryman really is a well-oiled machine with terrific staff and too many great shows to list. Hint I learned while there: BUY your tickets at the box office if you can: They will be half the cost of online venders's price! Highlight shows: Belle & Sebastian (this one), and Broken Bells (the last). Drinks are pricey as you might expect but worth getting "The double" and paying the $25+ bucks coz you can take it to your seats (pews) and make it last.Visited July 2022Written 3 January 2023
- Sandi H25 contributionsGreat Entertainment VenueLove visiting this venue for entertainment. I have seen Chris Young, Carol Burnett, and others perform here. There is not a bad seat in the house....no matter where you sit, the view is great. The only draw back is cramped seating.Visited February 2022Written 7 January 2023
- Blaine SDallas, Texas4 contributionsA Great Evening at a Great VenueOur first time to Nashville so we decided to be total tourist, and got lucky that the Opry was being broadcast from the Ryman. It's an awesome facility and we could feel the history. The variety of entertainers was excellent, with a few old timers, a couple of new inductees and a couple of first time performers. The unrehearsed nature of the show adds to the fun. Fair warning - the audience can be pretty casual (i.e. up and down a lot and talking through the show) so be prepared.Visited January 2023Written 11 January 2023
- Michele F3 contributionsPew style seating. Warm and cozy.A variety of talented artists performed the night we were there. Relaxed atmosphere and hip to hip with other audience members sitting in pews. Sing alongs throughout the night. A must-see while visiting Nashville; no matter how often one visits. Tennessee-an’s are excellent hosts.Visited January 2023Written 17 January 2023
- Terasia AFort Lauderdale, Florida31 contributionsMust seeYou have to go! If you do, I definitely suggest the guided backstage tour. You get to see all the dressing rooms and hear the history of the Ryman. Once the tour is over you can stand on the stage and a professional photographer will take 2 pictures for no additional cost. If we travel back to Nashville we will definitely check out a live show.Visited January 2023Written 25 January 2023
- Elisa GUruguay18 contributionsUnmissable place to visit in NashvilleWe went to the Opry at the Ryman on Saturday, January 21st and it was amazing to see and listen to such great artists performing outstanding pieces of different styles of country music in 2 unforgettable hours. Two days later we went of the tour of the auditorium and we were delighted to hear about the history of the place, the artists who have performed there and visiting the dressing rooms. A must if you visit Nashville.Visited January 2023Written 27 January 2023

Very lovely experience. I will admit that we got our tickets on sale buy one get one so the tickets came out to 13 dollars this included a tour of Johnny Cash tour bus. I would it was worth 13 dollars a person but it doesn't seem to me worth the full price. Sorry I feel they should keep the price at 13 dollars

We went to the Ryman as we're country music fans, but it felt very overpriced for what it was, especially as we did the self-guided tour. The venue itself is very small so it doesn't take very long to explore. It does include an interesting video on the history before you enter the Auditorium, though. It also includes a free printed photo on the stage.
I would only recommend this if you're really interested in country music and its history. If not, it is not really worth the cost, especially given it was the most expensive activity we did in Nashville. It is also worth noting that downloading the tickets on an app seemed completely unnecessary as I had to download the app just for this whereas every other place we visited simply emailed our tickets.

A marvelous piece of history. The story of the Ryman is extremely interesting. The tour is a self guided tour with many stations of fascinating history. You walk thru the public parts of the building and end up on stage where your picture is taken. The picture is included in the tour price. That was a surprise!

If you're a Country Music fan then a visit to the 'Mother Church' is a must. The short introductory film at the beginning is very helpful to learn more about this place and then the self guided tour. Plenty of interesting exhibits to see, as well as standing at the microphone on the stage. The acoustics in here must be amazing and would love to go to a concert. One thing to bear in mind if doing so is the amount of leg room on the wooden seats; not a lot, but of course the Ryman was built at a time when the average height of a person was quite a bit less. A wonderful building and a great experience.

Da wife and I have never been to Nashville before, let alone the Ryman. So we decided to try the Haunted Tour. Yes it was hokey as we expected. But our guide was fun and played into it. This is supposedly the only tour to take you under the stage (hint: dirt, rock, wood supports and a lot of electrical conduit). You can’t overstate the history of the place. It’s a shame it’s almost literally buried under the weight and oppressive sound of the multi-story “honky-tonk” bars on the sides.
I’m a huge Todd Snider fan. He’s a mainly folk artist that lives on the East Side of Nashville. He actually played the Ryman on his 50th birthday. His friend John Prine joined him for an encore of Illegal Smile. I wore Todd’s shirt to commemorate that.
It’s worth a visit!

We actually saw a concert at the Ryman, which will remain a fabulous memory! We had planned to tour the venue on our vacation, but after watching their schedule we were thrilled to see a live performance. That being said, the Ryman hosts a wide spectrum of acts from all genres.

I loved the Ryman Auditorium. We were able to walk there from our hotel in Nashville. We did the self-guided tour, and it was great. You first sit and watch a short video that was VERY well done and then you go off and explore on your own. Lots of things to see and read about. Very interesting. I'd recommend.

Great video at the beginning. Nice having the free time to see the auditorium. You might want to skip the tour of the Johnny Cash tour bus.

[Apologies for the late reply] Standing is not recommended.
If you have a pew seat on the floor near the stage, are you allowed to stand against the stage?

People were standing toward the end of the performance we were at when the final big hits were being played. I think that standing for the whole performance would seriously block the views of people behind.

Hello. I have self-guided tour tickets for myself and my group next month. The time says 9:00-3:00. Does that mean we can arrive any time before 3:00pm for our tour? I will have tickets on my phone so don’t need to visit the box office. In other words, we will have time for our tour if we arrive at 2:45? TIA!

As long as you want it to be. You have about a 10 to 15 minute movie to watch in the beginning, it is very interesting and sets the mood of the theatre. Then you explore on your own. We went first thing in the morning so it was not crowded at all. I enjoyed the Ryman more than the Country Music Hall of Fame.
