We visited and did a group lesson. It wasn't a very satisfying experience because it was stressful, crowded, and physically very difficult. The instructors did not communicate well with one another and there was a lot of tension while we were with them for just a few short hours. We wouldn't recommend them for beginners and definitely not for a... More

My friend and I had never surf before, so we joined the beginners' class at Manly Surf School. Our instructor Matt was so great! He made sure we get to try doing it many times, and he guided us very carefully. This is not the easiest activity especially when you haven't surf before. Depending on the tides, some days can... After thinking about getting surfing lessons for about 25 years, I finally "bit the bullet" and booked myself 10 group lessons. The first lesson I was standing up and the second lesson, I was not only standing and riding unbroken waves but also turning .. utterly brilliant feeling. My instructors have been knowledgable, encouraging and got me to a point... More

I have been surfing a few times but wanted to be in a lesson since I was unfamiliar with the area. Even though it was a group lesson with a mixture of levels I felt like I was able to have a lot of personal attention and surf at my level.

I am really happy with my experience with Manly surf school. The instructor was extremely helpful for me. Because I was struggling with the left turn since some lessons (at other surf schools) and he really helped me by analyzing that my feet weren't in the right spot on the board. He also helped the beginners by providing them different... More

Our 6 and 8 year old daughters had so much fun in the group surf lessons down at Long Reef. We highly recommend this surf school for their great attitudes and patience in teaching the students the love and skills for surfing.

My 6yr old daughter had a sudden confidence in the surf over the December school holidays and so jumped at the opportunity to try out surfing when we offered it to her. Being confident in the surf is so important when you live on the coast and spend so much time on the beach. We placed her in the Term... More

Went there for my 1st surfing lesson after seeing the great reviews. It was a group lesson of about 15 participants. Price is cheap but it was a useless lesson. We could barely hear the instructor. He kept mumbling. I thought it was me getting deaf but when I asked people around me, they said the same. I asked him... More

This was an awesome experience for our 9 year old son who wanted to learn how to surf, but is not overly confident in the surf. The instructors were all very attentive to each child's needs and there was more than enough practical experience to keep our son busy, entertained and loving every moment of the lessons. There was plenty... More

I arranged for my 16 yrd old son to go for a surf lesson at Manly Surf Lesson. I contacted them the day before and they were so accommodating and able to squeeze him in. From the moment he arrived, they were so friendly, so professional and instantly made him feel comfortable. They provided the surfboard, wetsuit, rash vest and... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
