Having been a regular visitor to the estate for business, this was the first time I have had chance to take in the area properley. There are some real gems to visit around the estate including taking a trip to the view point on the highest road in Wales, Bwlch y Groes road heading towards Dinas Mawddwy. On a clear... More

Wow, came across this place by accident. Just followed the signs thinking we would end up at a small lake! The dam and lake are massive. Coffee shop is well worth a visit. We didn't arrive until after they should have already closed but they stayed open as it was busy. They also hire bikes from there. There is a... More

Firstly this hotel has a fantastic location with wonderful views from the public rooms. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. We had a garden room in the old building which was comfortable and cozy with a large en suite. The room was clean and fresh and well equipped with TV, a wide selection of tea and coffee and plenty of... More

A truly gorgeous place for a great day out. The roads to the lake are well signposted and not too steep and the first surprise is that you drive over the dam to the car parking which is free! There isn't a huge amount of car park space so I guess on a weekend or peak period it would be... More

Thanks for this fantastic review! It was an absolute pleasure to read and I'm absolutely delighted that you had such a wonderful day with us. I can't say I've been to Bavaria (however a relative of mine has) and you may have just tempted me! I hope we see you again for another brilliant day out. More

Great walk across the dam to the picturesque village and dropped down to the sculpture trail below the thundering dam outfall. The wooden sculptures are decaying away naturally and unfortunately so is most of the interpretation. The grandeur of the masonry and neogothic architecture was stunning . Took tea in the tea rooms and then high tea in the hotel.... More

If you are in the area you must visit lake Vyrnwy. Excellent drive around the lake with some fantastic views. Make sure you park up and walk to the waterfall as it is well worth the 30 mins stroll. Also visit the bird hide near the RSPB centre, lots of birds to see on the feeding tables and fat balls.

Wow - what a place!! Beautiful lake, great for walking and/or cycling. Not at all crowded, probably due to the lack of cafes/restaurants/pubs - take your own lunch and sit and look at beauty.

We are holidaying in nearby Llanfyllin, and thought we'd drive up for an hour or so. 4 hours later we were still here, having spent half an hour watching birds from the RSPB hide, another half an hour in one of the fabulous cafes in Llanwddyn, and the rest of the afternoon wandering around the slightly neglected but fascinating (for... On our travel to our weekend camp site we stopped for a short break at this remote location of outstanding beauty. There is a large dam and plaques on the wall explain this magnificent construction.
