Booked a nights stay with my wife, all was well until dinner time. My alarm bells started to ring when we were 35 mins late to be called to out table which was booked for 8:15pm, The next bell rang when the adjacent table returned their soup as it was cold, next bell, the table behind had one starter and then had to complain that the second guests stater was still not at the table 15 mins after the first, OurTurn, We ordered the first two courses, 20 mins later they tell us one option was not available ? Our started still had not arrived at this time , I spoke to the bar help only to be told not my problem I only serve at the bar, A waitress eventually arrived with our olive and bread, Upon opening my napkin which held my cutlery was black on the inside , (can't up load the pic for some reason) they replaced my nap kin only leaving me to use the contaminated cutlery instead of supplying new and said its not our fault thats the way it arrives from the laundry, Main course arrives eventually , Duck in my case cold , tough ? sent most of it back Refused o pay for the meal by now it is almost 10:00 pm, Had breakfast which was acceptable, Spoke to Mr Rosser General Manager who said we could return at a further time as his guest , good customer skill really , fully expecting not to return. They didn't offer a goodwill drink or a reduced tariff ? The location was amazing sadly the service was not.

Fantastic views at Lake Vyrnwy, the reservoir on one side and lovely green country park on the other with a huge dam holding the massive body of water back. Just a walk or take a hike, also great for cyclists too with a 12 mile trip around the perimeter. Either way stunning views await.

There are no words for how beautiful and unspoiled this area is. Full of well-signed walks of various durations and fantastic views. We loved it.

Weather was kind, the lake looked it's best, had a coffee at cafe, and drove around stopping to admire the view. There are plaques on far cliff, explaining building of reservoir. Unfortunately due to covid information centre was closed as was RSPB centre, also couldn't drive the whole way round as far end was closed off.

Whilst staying at the hotel, we ventured out around the lake a few days. The weather can change quite rapidly but the walks and views are well worth getting caught in a downpour. Walking across the bridge was a highlight, offering some points of interest like the well appointed RSPB shop and a lovely cafe. If you’re a nature lover there is easily days worth of walks/hikes in the area to keep your interest. Extremely scenic area and well worth the long drive to get to!
