How did the tradition of the ducks in The Peabody fountain begin? Back in the 1930s Frank Schutt, General Manager of The Peabody, and a friend, Chip Barwick, returned from a weekend hunting trip to Arkansas. The men had a little too much Tennessee...more

The Peabody Hotel is a destination in itself. The ducks are amazing. Make sure you get there at least 30minutes before start.

Fun thing to do even without kids. The ducks parade at 11 and 5p daily. Get there early as it gets crowded quickly and the view is blocked by the crowd.

If you have children then yes you must. They allow the children to the front of the one to sit on the floor so they have a clear view. But they must sit still. If you are adults and passing at the right time, go...More

The Peabody is part of a chain, and one of Memphis's nicest and most elegant hotels. There used to be one in Orlando, FL, and there are plans to open a couple more around the country, but currently the principal site is in Memphis. The...More

It’s amazing what they have trained the ducks to do. If you are in the area of the Peabody Hotel before 11:00am or 5:00pm it’s definitely worth checking out. In the morning they march off the elevator and head straight to their “pond” at the...More

Couldn't believe this. What a hoot!. Amazing how they have these ducks. Need to see to believe. In a fountain, in a lobby. Have a drink and watch them. Way too cute!

Hundreds of people wait (and drink) in the Peabody lobby for the scheduled duck walk. Free (except for the drinks). The "show" is well developed with an introduction by an energetic MC, both historical and fun. At the appointed hour, the ducks are marshalled to...More

Really quite a strange concept: ducks in a fountain of a hotel bar make their way in unison to the elevator where they are marched to their resident hotel room. Interesting little spiel from the duck master a couple of minutes before the 15 second...More

Very rude crowd-pushing-shoving and yelling at the poor staff. I felt I was at a rock concert. I think I saw one duck....maybe. Family not impressed-at least it was free!

Very posh and very comfortable hotel. To see the “ducks” come out of the elevator every day is very interesting. You need to hear how this story started.

I believe it is free. We didn't see them march, but walked right into the hotel lobby, saw them swimming in the fountain, spoke with the duck master, and took the elevator up to the duck palace, which was really just going... More

This question has been answered...the ducks arrive at 1100 every morning...and depart at 1700. Suggest you get to the hotel early...say 9-10...have a coffee and nudge into just outside the lifts. Be prepared to be jostled... More
