Nice to visit and see Rev. Al Green.
Sep 2019
I was pleased to visit and see Al Green but this is a real church not a show. Visitors are welcome and everyone is nice but serious about the services. A great band plays gospel music.

Bishop Green raises you UP!
Jan 2020
I'm not a regular church goer but I prefer to attend services that are uplifting. Bishop Green and his congregation were welcoming and the service was soulful. I'm so grateful for the experience.

GLORY BE TO GOD
Sep 2019 • Couples
I’ve always wanted to attend Bishop Al Green’s services, so I put it on my Bucket List. His September 22, 2019 service was very uplifting. The message was on “LIVING THE WAY GOD WANTS US TO LIVE”. This church is an old school, down home church that rocks. The church members are kind and caring. There were people there from France, Canada, a bus from New Orleans and all over. Fred’s Sunday school lesson was very helpful. I plan to make more special trips to attend Full Gospel Tabernacle in the future.

Turn off your cellphones
Sep 2019 • Couples
TURN OFF YOUR CELLPHONES when you’re in a church, people. They went off three times - and one clueless lady just let her tropical ringtone keep going... amplified with church acoustics. So disrespectful.

The service we attended was very joyous in tone (no homophobic messages) and warm and welcoming to outside visitors. The band - with guitar, bass, drums, organ and piano - is amazing. One of the female solo singers was a great blues/soul singer. My husband and I are musicians and not particularly religious. Al Green was in really good spirits until the cell phones.

But be prepared that 1) the service can take 2.5 hours and you can’t get up and leave, there’s no break (but we thought the time flew by.) 2) do NOT use flash photography and maybe just try to be in the moment and don’t photograph at all. 3) this is a Sunday sermon for the local parish where local events will be addressed - the focus is not to be a tourist attraction. 4) other pastors will be leading the service for the first half before Al Green begins to talk (and sing!)

Show respect, set aside ample time, turn off your phones, and have a really cool and uplifting experience.

Wonderful Service
Aug 2019 • Friends
I always try to go to FGT when I'm in Memphis. Rev. Al Green always gives a heart touching but straight to the point sermon. I absolutely love the choir. A great spot to praise God.

Highlight of our 8 week USA tour.
Aug 2019
OK we're only 5 weeks in, but I think this will take some beating. Inspirational music, and whilst the sermon may upset some, we were riveted. All the local congregation were very welcoming. A few points for visitors;

This is a 2 hour service - I think it's rude if you leave half way through (plenty did).
Lots of Italians and French talking throughout service and showing little respect.
Not sure about taking video / pictures during service - save them for the sign outside.

Mother's Day treat
May 2019
We live part-time in Memphis and had heard of this church but had never attended. When some friends from out of town came in and asked us to join them for a service, we were excited. It was a beautiful service - the music, the message, the people - great experience all around!

Al Green in action!
Mar 2019 • Couples
My wife and I dropped in on a service during the latter half recently while in Memphis (St. Patrick's Day). We only stayed for 30 minutes, having so much to see (Lorraine Motel and Stax Museum also planned for today!), but enjoyed seeing the Reverend in action and listening to his wonderful choir and band.
More singing please!

I attended Full Gospel Tabernacle years ago, my mom was a friend to Al Green's personal overseer..He preached great sermons, and always song which drew a lot of people. He is still Pastor there and I know he is still putting out a great service.
