I didn't specifically visit to buy a book - I simply went because many reviews said to go. The age of the store is obvious, with unique use of old book shelves, and displays of old typewriters placed at the end of the book shelves, throughout the store. They obviously have a great collection of books, for those that are... More

I always look out for independent bookstores when we are travelling. This is a lovely neighbourhood book store and the owner spent time with me to find some great suggestions. It is always nice to chat to fellow book lovers and to get their recommendations - i look forward to reading the books now that I am back home.

This bookstore is not huge but it is so special! Very friendly helpful staff and books are arranged very well. They also have a local selection area. This is a must visit every time we come to Memphis.

This bookstore has a good variety and selection of books. Even those in our group who aren't big readers enjoyed it. The gentleman and young lady working were friendly and we had a great chat. If you love reading but don't love the chain bookstore prices, this is the place.

I work near Burkes Books and always pop over to find a good read on slow days. Staff is super friendly and remembers my favorite author. Books are cheap and very organized.

Great selection of new and used books- lots of local/regional titles and unique finds. Helpful staff who will order just about any book for you. I'm a bookstore connoisseur and this was a fantastic place. Plus there are lots of comfy chairs!

Amid the interesting architecture and bounty of shops in the Cooper-Young Historic District, this gem of a book store sits and offers a few first editions as well as both new and used books. We walked out with a sack full! I don't know if the cashier is the proprietor but the gentleman who checked us out was helpful and... More

On an overnight stay in Memphis, we became aware of Burke's---open only on the weekends! It's a 15 minute drive from the downtown Beale Street tourist area, and well worth it. The Cooper-Young area is kind of the "Village" of Memphis (young, hip) and the bookstore is in a pocket of nice restaurants and bars where you can retreat afterward... More

A wonderful indie book store in a hip neighborhood. Lots of off-beat, hard-to-find titles, both new and used. Knowledgable and friendly staff. Heaven for book lovers looking for a quirky, comfy, cozy, West Village-like book store with an afternoon to spare.
