Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

We had a great guide this morning on the first stop of the day, we were also the first group of the day, gutted can't remember her name but she was so informative and upbeat. Was great to know the studio was still in use and still had original insulation used for that original sounds. Even more exciting was getting... More

This attraction was crowded. Visitors herded through tight stairwells. We were not given any opportunity to view items on display. Guide was very knowledgeable, but did not allow any freedom. Items in gift shop were price fairly, but items from the snack bar were way overpriced. It was a special feeling to be in the same place as the million... More

It was very crowded but the tour groups were small enough to be able to see all of the exhibits. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Sun Studio.

What a fun little tour! Don't miss out on the opportunity to see the fairly humble spot where it all began for Elvis and Rock and Roll. The recording studio is exactly as it was when Elvis, Ike Turner, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, & Johnny Cash all recorded there. Nina the tour guide was fun, informative, and entertaining! Do be... Zach was our tour director who not only shared the history of Sun Records but also the little known stories/ facts that made the tour an A+++. Zach poured his heart and soul into the tour that left no doubt that he had a passion for his job. Something that is very rare with most tour guides anywhere.

a great way to understand the start of Rock and Roll music. very informative and knowledgeable tour guy, the studio is still a working studio when the tours stop, and they even have Elvis' original Microphone which you can pose with for pictures.
