It’s not difficult to see why the Isle of Lewis consistently receives so much acclaim.

From beaches and crystal clear waters that rival luxury tropical islands, to its rich history and stunning scenery, this remote and spectacular destination in the Outer Hebrides is the perfect venue for wonderful memories. Overlooking Stornoway harbour, the impressive gothic-revival style castle was built in the mid 1800’s by Sir James Matheson. Since then this beautiful building has also served as a hospital during WW2, a college, a school and now as an iconic wedding venue and luxurious holiday destination with Natural Retreats.

Serving delicious hand-prepared dishes as well as local delicacies, our Storehouse cafe is the perfect place to take a moment after your exploration of the Lews Castle grounds. Enjoy a frothy coffee or two from the comfort of our unique eatery, before tucking into our tasty specials of the day.

Pick up the perfect souvenir from your visit to our retail outlet 'The Outfitters', during your time at Lews Castle. From gorgeous gifts to luxury clothing and foodie treats, we've got you covered.

Wow wandered in what a job of my old school, and that's just the old navigation part. Shame the speed of service in the cafe was not as crisp as the place, only a minor issue and as more than me commented something I expect they will sort out , why no choice of just family in type of visit?

We visited on an extremely wet and windy day, literally just a couple of days before the refurbished castle was opening fully. Would have loved to have seen it in all it's glory - but none the less a lovely place. Nice to read that first guests have left good reviews. (Hope the grand piano was tuned before anyone came... Very enjoyable visit, great cafe and a museum that will entertain you for an hour or two. Also lovely walks in the woodland and easily within reach from the town centre.

We had a fantastic stay at Lewes Castle, the apartment had everything you could wish for and a huge bathroom with walk in shower. The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming, a special thank you to the lady behind the bar who introduced us to Harris gin. It was only 5 minutes or so walk to Stornoway... More

We were fortunate enough to be the first guests staying in the newly opened Natural Retreats accommodation at Lews Castle. We spent 7 nights in a superior apartment and were really impressed - the apartment was large, beautifully designed and furnished, with stunning views across to Stornoway. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival and thought the... More

We are currently staying in one of the self catering apartments - it is huge! Very well kitted out, modern stylish furnishings, welcome hamper, and extremely helpful staff. I can't compliment them enough. They also had everything we needed travelling with a toddler (although we were asked to pack our own cot linen this probably suited us better anyway). It's... More

We have had several delicious lunches at the storehouse cafe in the castle and even enjoyed a nice cake and prosecutors on Christmas Eve. The castle has been beautifully restored and staff are so friendly and helpful.

This was a beautiful, peaceful setting. We were one of the first to stay here after the restoration, and it didn't disappoint. We stayed in the Shoeburn Suite which was stunning. Huge room with outstanding views. No expense has been spared restoring this gorgeous Castle. With just a mere 15 minute walk to the centre , it is convenient for... More
