Didn't intend to visit museum when visiting with a friend on a rainy Saturday!! However what a wonderful place. We spent well over an hour and great value for money. Lovely staff.

This is great local museum with a lot of local history going back to pre-Roman times. It's well laid out and you can easily spend a couple of hours going round the displays. It also has a first class gift shop with quality Scottish products...More

Glad we came. Was surprised with the amount of information I didn't know about the area. All well put together and very understandable for all ages. A must visit if you're in the town. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

This museum is now housed in a beautifully set-out new premises. It has a street of old shops and businesses - think York Museum, smaller but with more hands-on opportunities. There's also a fascinating display of local archaeology which held the interest of our five-year-old...More

A very nice museum and very well laid out. Something for everyone. I liked the Crimean war exhibition the best.
