Says open weekends until September - we tired to visit two weeks ago on saturday afternoon and was closed - no explanation on gates or anywhere bit sad as we had travelled to biggar just for this on the day during our holiday in scotland....More

The information on TripAdvisor 're opening times is incorrect. The opening times are Saturday 1-5 pm, Sunday 1-5 pm, April to September. CLOSED at all other times.

A 5 minute walk from the Biggar museum and well worth it. The lady on duty gave a very interesting talk on the history of the gas works along with the short film in the showroom. We then spent 15 minutes walking around the works...More

Not open very often. But when it is it is great!. I would recommend it definitely to families passing through Biggar.

Interesting as it's one of the few remaining examples of something which was once common place. You can view the old gasworks (including the retorts which still smell of sulphur thirty years after their last use), and there is a slightly dated film about towns...More

It was good, but a one time visit, they show you a video and you get to look around the old gas works. If you're taking the kids, try the Burn Braes park next to it

Was passing by and have never been. Not the biggest of Historic Environment Scotland sites but it was really interesting place to visit. Can send about 30 minutes here and the staff are really knowledgeable. Worth a visit if your passing.

Takes you back to the age of the New World cookers and beyond. A must to show the young how life has progressed in a relatively short tine span
