We provide information and interpretation on the history of the Caledonian Canal, as well as an activities booking service and gift shop. Come and learn about the canal, sign up for some canoeing, whitewater rafting or canyoning, and take home some unique souvenirs made by Scottish designers and manufacturers. We have maps and information on how you can travel along the length of the Caledonian Canal, or the Great Glen Way between each of the stopping-off points, how long it will take, facilities, etc. The canal and lock gates outside our door make up the living museum which is the Caledonian Canal.

Parking, toilets, helpful staff at centre. Short walk to the locks which are similar to Neptune’s Staircase but are much more built up beside the locks with houses and businesses.

The wife and I really liked Fort Augustus, and especially picnicking in town and watching the boats move through the locks. The canal is impressive to watch, albeit slow. Neat town with a great atmosphere.

Full of knowledge of the operations of locks. I personally have been through several locks in Canada and US and still found this fascinating. Fun shops and dining options in the area. Enjoy!

This place at Fort Augustus is a beautiful, tranquil place and certain times of the day, if you are lucky you can watch the boats/yachts go through the locks on the canal and watch them go through to Loch Ness. Amazing to watch!
