Great attraction witha dramatic walk round the headland first then a steep climb (steps) down to sea level and the cave itself. You can do all this and look in the cave for free but the £6 to progress further into the cave by dinghy...More

Cycled over from Durness early morning and were rewarded by having the place to ourselves. Amazing structure, took loads of pictures and definitely worth the early start

A nice place to stop if in the area. It's a short walk down from the car park and rather picturesque. It was raining too much the day before so we couldn't go on the little boat to go to the inner cave.

Small carpark at the top of the cave but there is a layby just 100m up the road. There are two paths down and we chose the one at the back of the toilet block. Followed the well made steps down to the cave and...More

Paid for the tour, you get a short boat ride and a trip deeper into the cave with an enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. He also spoke German if that’s useful! One of the highlights on the trip.

Very interesting and well worth so doing the boat trip (it's not a boat trip) Colin had some good stories. We also walked out over the top. Amazing to see it all.

Right beside the NC 500 road, Smoo cave makes a perfect short stop. The car park doubles up for the toilets too, so on the day we visited getting a space was tricky. There are several steps involved to walk down to the cave entrance....More

I have been in caves around the world. I am at a loss what the appeal is here. Even if you patty for a tour you aren't going very deep. Without a tour it is one small cave. The coast views are more appealing.

I guess so! I think that if there has been too much rain (or perhaps thawed snow/ice), they close up parts of the cave. When we were there, we could only go into the very first bit.

The steps are quite manageable, just take your time. You do not have to go on the boat ride to see the waterfall, it's just along a small passageway from the main cave.

The steps shouldn't be a problem for a person with no health problems. There are many steps. If you can climb up a few stories in a building, you can do this. There are benches to stop at if you need to.
