Brilliant whiskey tasting experience
Sep 2021 • Couples
I did the whiskey and chocolate tasting and loved it. Our guide was Scott and he was so invested in our enjoyment and ensuring we felt safe in the bar area.
You get a good hour to get to know others in the tasting course and to talk about palates and flavours etc
Loved the experience and the whiskey and chocolate tasting.

Feeling Unwelcome
Sep 2021
My wife and I had cycled 20+ miles in the rain. We had an hour to wait for the next ferry and decided to have lunch at the Distillery Cafe. We were greeted by two staff, arms held across their chests just like door staff at an unruly nightclub.
We asked if we could have a table for two. No was the reply. It's busy.
How long do you think we might have to wait we asked? shoulder shrugging.
Could we use one of the empty tables to the right of the entrance? No, they're for the whiskey tasting tour guests, but you could have a takeaway coffee etc from the bar adjacent to the empty tables.
So we moved the 6 feet required to reach the bar which was not staffed. The two door staff continued to face the door.
Excuse me, can we get a takeaway tea we asked one of the door staff, not 3 feet away from us. This was provided and we asked if we could sit in one of the still empty tables, No, it's against the rules to consume takeaway items on the premises.
We went outside, in the rain, to drink the tea.
It was there I saw that the notice board informed us that there were no tasting tours currently. This meant that the 4 or 5 empty tables were not in use and we were forced to have out tea outside.
One guy, who had witnessed our predicament. commented, which summed up our experience.....'Its a bit like we are an inconvenience to these people"

A highlight!
Sep 2021 • Friends
I booked the limited editions tasting and we had an outstanding experience. It was a very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and we got to taste some wonderful rare whiskies. The distillery is great at providing a well-rounded experience - the shop is well stocked and organised, the rooms for the tasting are lovingly decorated and the cafe is comfy. If you haven't been on an island during the pandemic, you'll find that the restrictions are generally more strict than on the mainland but that isn't limited to the distillery. Still, Arran visitor centre staff were welcoming and helpful throughout and the location of the distillery is as picturesque as they come. I highly recommend the tasting, unforgettable!

We didn’t actually participate in the tour but we finished for some takeaway lunch and sat outside. The staff inside the shop and the cafe were exceptionally friendly and attentive. Must come back for the tour!

A very tasty tasting
Sep 2021
Went for the Limited Editions tasting and we weren't disappointed. There were some very limited editions that I was surprised were opened for this type of session. Our 'guide' through the tasting was Colin who was very knowledgeable and conversational, and made the session very enjoyable. Most of the group, like myself were malt whisky drinkers with our own preferences and knowledge, and he tailored the session to the audience excellently. Couldn't go to the cafe as the opening times didn't fit in with our travelling but we got a good cup of coffee and some lovely sandwiches from the takeaway kiosk. I've recommended 2-3 hours length of visit but you would need longer if planning in a visit to the cafe as well.

Did the Whiskey and Chocolate tasting, if you like both of these things equally this is an absolute must! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hats off to Billy who ran the "tasting" - he made the event even more enjoyable (if that were possible!) with his humour and knowledge of the subject. Would definitely recommend this.

Whiskey tasting session didn’t disappoint
Jun 2021 • Friends
I visited the distillery for a tasting session with a friend in June. Campbell made us feel very welcome and certainly didn’t judge how little we knew about whiskey, he was just eager to teach and he’s a great storyteller. The selection was great and I went home with a bottle of the Amaronie and Arran Gold. The shop sells a lot of great products in addition to the whiskey and the staff are very helpful in getting things packaged and sent home for you as they understand a lot of visitors can’t carry everything conveniently.

Thanks for your very kind and positive review. Campbell is one of our long serving tour guides and is a true character so we are delighted to hear your tasting didn't disappoint and that the rest of the staff were helpful and accommodating. Arran Gold is a "must buy" for most visitors and the Amarone Finish is one of our most popular cask finishes so we hope you enjoy sipping on your dram whilst reminiscing about your visit to the Distillery and island. We hope you make it back again sometime and also get a chance to visit our sister Distillery at Lagg in the south of the island.

We are coming to visit Arran next weekend and we will be visiting the distillery. If you drive can the driver take their tasting samples away with them and the other person have theirs while visiting?

Yes - there was someone on our tour who did this, the guide made sure to fill them a miniature bottle to take with them at the end.

There is a discount for Senior Citizens, but if you go to the website you will be able to get full details. We are still enjoying our Arran Gold - a superior type of Baileys!! Hope you enjoy your visit.

How far from the ferry to the distillery, could we walk or should we take the car over??

If you are taking the ferry to Brodick then no you can't walk it. For a day trip I think taking the car is essential so that you can travel all over the island.
