Young lady at the reception extremely helpful - very interesting castle just wish I hadn't needed to run for the train as I would have liked to have spent more time exploring - well worth the visit

This was a nice place to visit by all means! I had a lovely tour with a friend and got a lot of history lessons. It you/I expect a castle to walk around in, then you'll be somewhat disappointed. Only the "new" bit is maintained that well. The area and the history of the castle make up for the lack... More

We went on a rainy day and it was still lovely:-) great little cafe too where you can sit outside overlooking castle grounds too. We had a 4 year old and 14 year old with us and both enjoyed it too

This is not one of the bigger well known Castles in Scotland but I would not Mark it off the list. It's a self guided castle but you can buy a guide book for a couple of pounds and just take your time going through this marvelous old castle. The garden is beautifully maintained. Parts of the castle are ruins... More

Great castle, a bit of history for everyone, nice gardens around for walks. They also run kids activities during the season so a bit of education for children.

On a sunny day a perfect place to wander the gardens and take in the majesty and history of this important Scots castle. Easy reach by train from Edinburgh. Station adjacent.

The castle is partial ruins but fun for the children with all the corners to explore. Definitely worth spending 0.5 day to explore, coupled with a visit to Silver Sands beach and St Fillan's church. The only disappointment for us was the small cafe on the castle grounds - slightly overpriced, in our opinion.

Incredible history here. Lovely gardens. Amazing ruins of one of the oldest castles in Scotland. Definitely worth taking the time to visit!

GET the explorer pass! This was on the list an was able to get in for free. The castle is a quick tour, but the outside (In my personal opinion) was the best feature. It's just beautifully set up. we went on a very beautiful day (just turned out that way) and really made for amazing photos.
