My partner became a kid and dressed up in the victorian costume provided. Interesting and beautiful interior and lovely green grounds to sit and have a cream tea with the biggest scones I have ever seen. A real must visit

Great location

Booked here for an early Sunday morning. Well worth a visit to this quirky house with amazing views and very interesting history. The cafe under the house is no longer open but there is very good coffee cart just outside in the car park.
The visit was marred by the volunteers, hit and miss as is often the case with NT properties. One kept forgetting what she'd told people, couldn't answer questions and didn't seem to know much; another was really helpful. The volunteers in the shop were officious - often the case in the NT which is a real shame.
This smallish house is most useful for its two stair cases which allow a one way tour of the full house.

Must see property

We have visited this property before and found it compelling.
Today (Sunday 26th) was not quite as we hoped.
Our visitor experience was marred by dogmatic and abrupt volunteer in reception - being a volunteer is not an excuse for poor customer care.
National Trust demands it’s volunteers undertake equity and diversity training- well how about customer care!!!!!

Have to say that the best example was from the privately outsourced coffee/crepe outlet on the car park.

An amazing house with committed volunteers.
Aug 2021
I've been to A La Ronde a couple of times, but took my wife this time. The weather was shocking, and COVID restrictions led to us queuing in the rain, but the house was as interesting as ever.

The volunteers were, as usual, very much on the case and full of stories and interesting information about the house and its occupants. It was tricky to maintain distancing with other groups as we wanted to know everything and were thus often overtaken by family groups in the narrow corridors and rooms, but short of only allowing a handful in the house at a time it's hard to see what more could be done.

It will be nice when it's possible to grab a drink and sit in the garden again, and I would have liked those in charge to manage the queuing so that it could be done in the warm, but A La Ronde remains one of my favourite houses to visit.

A magical place that you'll want to visit again and again

My second time visiting, and it was still as magical and full of unexpected treasures! The items curated within this house are rotated, to avoid damage through light exposure - so going a second time meant that there were still plenty of new things to admire and learn about. The last time I visited was before children - and it was wonderful to see how inspired my teenage daughter was by the Parmenter cousins, their creativity and how forward-thinking they were. This is such a splendid day out. Not only is the place itself awe inspiring, but the people who work there have so much knowledge to share with you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL!

A unique structure with a very special story to tell
Sep 2020
This 16 sided house was created so the residents cousins Jane and Mary Parminter could follow the sun! The interior is a little puzzling but entertaining as long as you follow instructions and go round the right way. One volunteer felt we were disobeying instructions but I'm sure she meant in the best way. Another volunteer was full of facts and information and was fascinating. The grounds are terrific - a must visit. This was a pre lockdown trip.

A La Ronde is one of my favourite National Trust houses because it’s so weird!

We were warmly welcomed by the staff who introduced us to the house and were very knowledgeable. We enjoyed a tour around and loved seeing the curiosities the two ladies who lived there had amassed on their travels. The design of the house is well worth closer examination and my children found the beautiful shell collections absolutely fascinating, particularly the gigantic conch shells. After the tour we walked down past the meadow and the children enjoyed a game of hide and seek in the long grass. Plenty of room for them to let off steam and run about whilst I enjoyed the views! Picked up some gorgeous books from the second hand shop for a bargain. Can’t wait to come back in a view years to check out the renovated Shell Gallery!

Nice hour or so

Only took an hour to 90 minutes so for a whole family wasn’t cheap. However quirky place to wander around and enjoyed coffee and crepes in the sun and peaceful countryside after. The top floor was under renovation so couldn’t see it
