Although the history of the area in here was very interesting for us as tourists, I'm afraid that the staff here found us tourists the least bit interesting and clearly had no interest in engaging in conversation with us. I got more helpful information from locals on our holiday than from this heritage office. The fact that the mis spelled sign outside read soveniers for sale should have served as a warning signal. As a result of this lack of helpfulness we didn't realise until too late that we missed out on the main attraction up the road the Avoca Mill, grrr.... The village is very quaint and of course is location of Ballykissangel show, shops are in a bit of a time warp.

One of our party needed a little advice on an old family name, the friendly ladies here directed us to cemeteries where we found some old tomb stones with the old family name - great advice. They also sell little trinkets & quirky souvenirs, interesting displays of historical items

An oldcourthouse now used as a community information centre with computers for internet access for visitors. Lots of information on Ballykissangel and The Old Avoca Mines including come old implements used in the old mine workings. An Olde Curiosity Shop well worth a visit, they also have some local souvenirs on sale.

Strolling around Avoca looking for something we saw on the Internet, we came on this Heritage Centre, we made inquiries about the activity we wanted and were disappointed that the place we wanted closed despite the website still taking advance bookings for their activities. The staff were really helpful with advice on walks in the area and provided us with maps, there is lots of tourist information and leaflets available. If you have an interest in the Heritage of the area there is a lot of old photographs of days gone by and the mining for copper. Well worth a visit for a browse and advice on what to do in Avoca. The Heritage Centre is the Ocre/Orange coloured building right next to the park by the river.
