Authentic Irish Music Session
Jan 2020 • Friends
Took my Dad (who uses a wheelchair) away for a night to Athy to experience the traditional Irish music session on Thursday nights at Clancys. I messaged ahead and was told it best to arrive around 8, with music at 8.30. We were warmly welcomed and were given the perfect spot in the back room to soak up the talents and entertainment of over 19 musicians playing everything from uileann pipes to banjos, violins to flutes!! It was fantastic, the room was full of amazing musicians so there’s only room for a handful of spectators, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it! The bar manager John and his team couldn’t have been more helpful and hospitable, even calling us a taxi when heading back to hotel. Big thumbs up, would highly recommend!

Authentic Irish pub with live traditional music

Best part of my trip to Ireland was stopping into this pub on a Thursday night for the live music. Such a treat. Hope to never forget this memory!

Fantastic Thursday Night in June, 2018!!!

Best real Irish trad music experience at Clancy's. Just a wonderful experience that I could not duplicate on the rest of my Irish travels. People are so warm and welcoming and the music was out of this world. Loved that we were encouraged to join in. This place is what I think of when I think of Ireland and her music. Simply not to be missed!!!

Fantastic pub with great history

While waiting for a taxi to take us to Kilkea Castle we magically stumbled into Clancy's which I had known about from a documentary on Irish pubs. It was great. If you're not there on a Thursday, at least check out the back room with it's history of the musicians that have passed through the pub. Great service and very friendly clientele.

Nice but dusty
Apr 2018 • Friends
Like a lot of Irish pubs they confuse atmosphere with dirty and dusty ornaments everywhere and low lighting so it's not spotted. The back is more modern. Give the place a good clean!

Came here with a bunch of friends, Athy is tiny. So was this pub! I thought I walked in to someone's sitting room it was that small. But the pub is pumping with a great buzz. Live music, good staff and seems to be a real popular place.

Nice pint: nicer location

Clancy's is a great spot taking you from a very intimate authentic Irish snug bar at the front bar through a well developed lounge and into a lovely beer garden area - I was only in for a couple of afternoon jars - I had other commitments to go to that evening but I imagine a night in there would be a great evenings entertainment

One of Ireland's greatest trad music pubs.

Many years ago I used to be a regular for the Thursday night traditional music session. Now I seldom get the chance as Thursday nights are taken up with other things but I was there recently and its as good if not better than ever! Excellent pints and authentic music representing a living tradition. It is advisable to go early to make sure of a seat in the back room where the music is. The front bar is a good old fashioned pub with a decent clientele ( not greatly improved by my presence ) and, most importantly , great pints of Guinness.
