Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This fort is right on the cliff edge and, unfortunately, is gradually disappearing over the edge. It is not possible to actually get into the fort (probably for safety reasons but also to prevent damage) but, on payment of a fee, it is possible to walk down to it.

On the other side of the road is a visitor shop but more importantly they show a short AV presentation. This is really helpful in understanding the site and pointing out features you may not otherwise notice. Strongly advise watching it, and probably best before you visit the site itself.

The fort is in a stunning location with fabulous views. Whether you'd enjoy a visit really depends on your interest in such sites (not that you have to be an obsessive to enjoy and find it worthwhile).

Found this to be a lovely information stop on the Slea Head Drive. Yes the Fort is falling into the ocean, but there is a great little movie on its history and gives you a good perspective on the extraordinary archaeology of the area. Pity more archaeological sites on the Dingle peninsula provided more information on there sites like this one. The views of the Skellig’s and the Atlantic Ocean are beautiful from this site. Worth the small fee at the gate.

I wish we had read reviews before stopping by. The audiovisual was ok, and gave a little background, but the fort itself is inaccessible due to damage from storms about 5 years ago (we learned this from another site).

If I could rate this as Zero it would be more appropriate. What a waste if time and money. DO NOT GO HERE !!

One has to pay to go to a fort that is all fenced off and totally insignificant pile of stones. No receipts either !Yes, the cliffs are pretty but many other places to see spectacular cliffs. This is the only spot in IE that i warn you against not wasting any time or money on ! Very disappionted.

Charged €10 to access the site by the landowner only the discover access was locked further down. Apparently OPW locked it for safety but the farmer is trying to make a quick buck

Went to visit with our family of 6. 2 adults and 4kids. Visitor Centre closed so no introductory video but still got charged 15 Euro by the grumpy old man at the Gate to walk down to see fort which is enclosed in a fence. View there is incredible though. Felt ripped off as that price should include the introductory video.

This is a beautifully presented piece of Irish history. The audio visual centre is very good and extremely informative. The staff are really friendly,
A must if you are driving the slea head.

Stopped here to watch the movie and visit the fort. It is very interesting, but fenced in due to the fort falling slowly into the ocean since it is built along the cliffs. It is a beautiful area and has beautiful scenery, but you cannot walk around and in the fort. It is fence off for your safety.

Visited the fort this week with my husband and wow is it spectacular!!! Not only the history of it but the views below are the best of Ireland overlooking the skellig rocks simply amazing.
With the enterance fee a video is shown on the history of the fort and local area very worthwhile and interesting to say the least.
Great value for money and nice gift shop on site to buy that someone special something nice.
I must add that the toilets are immaculate. So clean and looked after. Also there is a restaurant (The Stonehouse) on location lovely place welcoming fire and hosts throughout

Wow this was amazing and one of the highlights of my trip. The Fort dates back to 500BC and the stories it could tell only God knows but it is spectacular. It is located on the cliffs edge with stunning views of the Skellig Rocks from whom Star Wars fans would be familiar with its simply wow wow wow. Due to erosion over the years a small section of the fort has fallen into the sea BUT DONT let this put you off it’s quiet breathtaking.
Included in the admission fee roughly €3
there is a video opposite the fort which details the history of the fort and what life was like in those times very informative and interesting. The host Caroline I believe was her name was worn out I’d say by all my questions i bombarded her with but she was like a walking encyclopaedia with the information and answers to my questions.
Loads of history in this area especially movie fans with such films as Far and Away, Star Wars and the well documented Ryan’s Daughter to name a few.
Also on the premises is a lovely gift shop which you can buy souvenirs and postcards and other cute items
Oh and a restaurant also is attached called the Stonehouse which makes a mean Baileys Hot Chocolate yum you gotta try it.
Thanks so much to the owners
