We (a family of four) had a deeply unpleasant experience while visiting this shop. When we arrived there seemed to be something for kids and adults alike so we began to look around. The man running the store was involved in a conversation with another customer, which was fine by me but as I browsed the store I found an item I wanted to ask a question about so I wanted to wait until he was free. In the meantime, my 12 year old daughter was leafing through a book when an elderly gentleman came up to her and asked if she would mind not doing that as other people may want to buy the book and she could damage it. It was all a bit uncomfortable but we said nothing. Then I spotted a coat of arms framed, it was a surname of a friend of mine so I took a photo to send to him to see if he wanted me to buy it for him. As I was taking it the man running the store, who had finished his conversation with the other customer, came up and said, 'We'd prefer if you didn't take photos of the products, we're trying to sell them'. He looked rather agitated with my actions. When I explained what I was trying to do he grunted and walked away. No apology, no acknowledgement of the circumstances. It was embarrassing. At this point my wife walked out of the store. When I confronted him about this he said 'Off with you' and waved me away. To say his behaviour, and that of the elderly gentleman who spoke to my daughter, who I can only guess was his father based on how they both acted, was bizarre is an understatement. It was the strangest customer service experience I have ever had and a far cry from the hospitality we have grown to love during our many trips to Connemara. It also spoiled our day as the entire episode left us angry and sickened. I am re-assured to see other reviewers have had similar experiences while visiting the store. So if you're looking for an alternative experience in Connemara, something akin to The League of Gentlemen, be sure to pay a visit to Joyce's Craft Shop. I, on the other hand, won't be back.

Unique crafts and gifts. Although some of their offerings are pretty pricey, the unique quality of their offerings is without compare. There IS something for every budget! We make it a destination stop whenever we return to Ireland. Was there in the last two weeks and this time we wisely purchased all of our special gift souvenirs at this lovely shop.

Well, you wern't exactly dashing, the Connemara roads put a stop to that habit! For good reason too. As you slow down and begin to look, look and look and see then see Straith Salach - this is Recess. That's it! Stop, cross a road risky to cross, and take a wee recess in Joyces's. You won't be sorry you did. (and yes, you will either spend or wish that you could.....)

We popped in on a drive back to our B&B, there is literature there to explain the Joyce family, whose name you will see all over in Ireland. The shop is very well stocked with all kinds of gifts and crafts. If I had more money, I would have bought everything I could. The prices were a bit dear for me. A Bog mug was $20. They were beautiful, and I wish I could have spent $20 on a mug, but sadly I couldn't. Their woolens and textiles were top notch quality, and again, too dear for me, but if you have money to spend, spend it there!

Hi BernBento, Thank you for your comments. We try to stock products that exemplify the best of traditional crafts from Ireland. We know the makers and have visited their workshops making sure that everything we say is made in Ireland is "made in Ireland". I am sorry you couldn't find something that you liked within your budget. The bog mugs are made exclusively for us by Ray Power in Kilkenny, and each piece is a small work of art. Please be sure to pop in the next time you are in the area as our stock is constantly changing and we try to have pieces that suit every budget.
