Unintended Stop on Inis Oirr

The ferry crew told us several times that our stop was the first stop, but we still managed to miss it and not get off the ferry until Inis Oirr. In retrospect, that was a good mistake. The weather was dreadful, but I would have loved to rent bikes and ride the island on a warmer day. We couldn't see... More

AN old freighter that wrecked and washed ashore. An interesting rusting hulk that many find fascinating.

The shipwreck is an interesting one. It can be difficult to travel close to it based on the bad weather but its worth it.

It was amazing to see this stranded shipwreck. With any effort one can walk around it and take some beautiful photographs.

While on the beautiful island of Inis oir, I went on a pony and trap to see the island. We stopped off at the plassy walked along the rocks to get to the shipwreck. The man on the trap told us the story of what happened. There was no rush, we saw the beautiful mountains of Mourne. Excellent place to... More

Visited Inisheer island on Saturday 15th Sept 2016. We left from Doolin and were gifted with glorious sunshine for the day. Walked by the golden beach down to the wreck of the Plassy where we had our lunch looking across the water to Doolin. Walked back to the pier and had a lovely pint of Guinness in the front garden... Stopped here on our bike ride around the island. Walked all the way around it on the rocks with wonderful views inside the ship and of the rocks with rust stains on them. There were people climbing into the ship, but it didn't look too save to me. But definitely walk down to and around it.

Was a great part of our island tour. Rust ridden now but the story behind it is fascinating, as told by our guide. This ship was blown up to the land where it remains today by a high squall. We got out of our wagon and walked up to it.

Fortified by one of Susan Daly's magnificent breakfasts (see review Daly's House, Doolin) we boarded the Happy Hooker Doolin2Aran ferry at Doolin’s Pier bound for Inis Oirr (pronounced Inisheer), the smallest and the closest of the three Aran islands. This was a super day out. 30 minutes on the Happy Hooker, 3 and a half hours to cycle round the... More
