Very good

Great way to spend the day, and the coffee is good too.
Oct 2019
So my other half came had been in to look at items in the shop as she works near by, and came up with the idea that we make each others wedding rings. I thought it a nice idea and was happy enough to give it a go, but thought we would end up with somthing awful.
However.... Ed is a fantastic teacher, and we ended up coming away with exactly what we wanted for rings. He was extremely paitent, and most importantly has a great sense of humor with lots of good stories.
Hes a total gentleman and a true craftsman and artist. Id recommend anyone to do his courses.
Theres also some beautiful pieces for sale in the shop, well worth a visit.
Ask for the coffee, and ignore the sign! :) :)

Afternoon at Wayland Forge
Nov 2016 • Friends
Was looking up things to do in Skerries and came across mention of Wayland Forge silversmith. I found the website that offered jewelry making classes, thought it would be awesome to make our own souvenirs using sea glass and silver so contacted through Facebook and made a reservation for my daughter and I. Perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon after a scrumptious lunch at the Skerries Mill cafe. My daughter made a ring, I made a necklace, we learned a lot about Irish culture as well as being introduced to jewelry making by a very talented (and patient) instructor who had an awesome sound track playing the whole time and gave us an insight into the intricacies of a silversmith. If you don't have time for a class, he has some amazing unique pieces for sale in his shop.

Fantastic day in a wonderful setting!!!
My husband and I spent an amazing day here .... A day to remember !
We both were absolute beginners our first time trying our hand to this skilled art, and Edward made us so welcome and so comfortable in what would be an unfamiliar environment to us both!

He had such great patience and skill, which showed to us a love for this art answering all our questions and helping and guiding us every step of the way.
We learned so much from him in such a small space of time , it is such a fascinating field , and Edward gave us so many tips and his passion for his work shone through .

He is such a lovely person too , as well as hugely talented and highly experienced silversmith ,we both felt so privileged to be there.
We had a few ideas of what we wanted to achieve and with the great help of Edward he made it all happen for us ,we were both delighted and when we left we felt such great achievement !!!

We cannot recommend this workshop enough .... For anyone who has an interest in jewellry making or like us total novices it is such a fabulous experience in that beautiful setting at the mills .His studio is in a beautiful stone building looking out to such a picturesque view.
It is a lovely day out to experience somthing worthwhile and different , we have already booked in for another day again ...It has left us wanting more, we cannot wait to return !!

Amazing Jewellery and Silversmithing School !!!
Oct 2013 • Solo
I started jewellery making a couple of years ago, and was looking for some tuition to develop my skills further. I came across Waylands jewellery school, and got booked in for a full day. I brought my own silver, and Ed was so helpful in emails regarding the materials I would require for what I wanted to make. When I arrived at the studio on that saturday morning, I was so impressed. Eds studio is so inviting, and situated in the picturesque skerries mills. As soon as I arrived Ed made me feel so welcome, and after an initial discussion about what I would be doing, I started making an anticlastic bangle, a technique I had never done before. Ed helped me through the process every step of the way, and made learning fun and stress free. I was so delighted with my finished bangle, and wear it every day, getting many compliments on it too! The rest of the day was spent making a bowl, again something I had never done before. Ed again helped through the process step by step, answering any questions I had, and explaining everything so clearly. I was absolutely delighted with he finished bowl, and hope to be making many more. I highly recommend waylands jewellery school to qnyone no matter what their skill level, whether you are a complete beginner or hqve some experience already. I travelled from belfast to go to ed's studio, and it was well worth it. I do intend to go back soon, and make another bowl! Since being taught by Ed on this one session, I have really been enjoying practising and experimenting with anticlastic raising, making silver pendants, rings and bangles at home, using all that Ed taught me during that one day. So if you arethinking of learning silversmithing and/or jewellery making, dont hesitate to get in touch with Ed!! :)

Still coming back for more!!!
May 2013 • Solo
I had heard from various friends of "the silversmith in Skerries" who ran classes in silversmithing and eventually got around to investigating for myself.... It is now located in Skerries Mills with ample parking, restaurant, toilet facilities... While many people do a single class to experience the pleasure of making a simple piece (which I did myself on the first day)
it's been thoroughly worthwhile and a pleasure to meet and be mentored over the last few weeks by the proprietor, Ed Cook.
An original date for a couple would be to visit the studio having wandered Skerries wonderful beaches in search of sea glass to turn into a one off special piece of jewelry .... I spend a few days searching and now have a list of pieces I would like to make.. :-)
