We had a wonderful trip with Jim on a lovely Sunday afternoon, exploring the island by boat and learning about its history and natural habitats. Jim had a great way of explaining this to the group and would strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the island to ensure you see Arranmore from a different perspective and appreciate it even more.

We did the Sea Safari tour with Jim, it was truly a day to remember! It was fascinating learning about life on all the Islands surrounding Arranmore today and back in the old times! Our two boys had a great day acting as skippers! A thoroughly enjoyable experience, we can’t wait to do it again next year!!

The trip exceeded our expectations. The skipper was witty and interesting with his tales of the islands and the people who lived and worked on them. There can be no more enjoyable thing to do on a sunny afternoon in Donegal than a boat trip in such a beautiful area. We would thoroughly recommend the Sea Safari and Marine Heritage Tour to anyone, in fact we would do it again ourselves if we manage a summer visit again next year!

Absolutely enjoyed hearing all the information that captain Jim had of the area. The sea stacks, sea caves and general rock formations and cliffs were stunningly beautiful. It was two hours very well spent and I would highly recommend the trip around the Rosses Islands and Arranmore to anyone.

We had a great trip with our 2 children today (5 year old and 3 year old). The coastline and and scenery was stunning, we were lucky enough to see a few seals and dolphins. The kids even got to have a go at being the captain which they were delighted about! The real captain, Jim, was a gentleman- had great knowledge and stories, and very good with our two kids. This trip was the highlight of our holiday to Donegal, definitely would highly recommend to anyone 👌 Thank you Captain Jim!

Great experience with Jim yesterday, he kindly looked after us even though he was busy all day he made sure to squeeze us in as we were late booking the sea safari, he was very knowledgeable about the island aswel as having the craic along the way, he made sure we all had a good time on the boat making it worth the money! He even got us all up to have a little drive of the boat ourselves for a picture opportunity which was definitely a good laugh with our group of 8, definitely would recommend taking this tour the scenery is gorgeous and the caves are spectacular.

Thanks so much Jim for taking us last minute and giving us a great laugh 👍

Hi Debbie, Delighted to give you all a little view of Island life and the great scenery we have at Arranmore Island, it's a little bit different than the Midlands and I am sure you'll be back again on the island next year, see you then, Jim

As the other group and family mentioned in the response to the 'Captain Jim' one star review we felt it important to leave a review of our experience.

We loved our trip and would have left a 5 star positive review anyway, but were so upset to see such a negative review which suggested the complete opposite experience to the one we had, we immediately wanted to leave this review.

We are currently holidaying in the area and chose to take a trip with Jim after reading the positive reviews here. We had limited availability to take the trip and when I contacted Jim he took my details and availability and told me he'd make something work. He called me back, after scheduling an additional trip to suit us. He again called me back and texted me twice to confirm details and gave me helpful tips re parking at the port, etc. He refused to accept payment for my one-year old daughter and was most kind and professional while making arrangements.

We were a group of seven, five adults and a one and four-year old. We booked the heritage tour and understood that this was going to be about the history of the area. We explained to my four-year old that we were going on a boat trip and that the captain would be telling lots of stories and that she would need to be quiet so that her grandparents and the other passengers could listen to these stories.

My two daughters loved being on the boat and loved Jim. My shy four-year old was comfortable enough to ask him could she take a picture of herself sailing the boat and Jim of course obliged, making a fuss of my two daughters and helping us make some lovely memories.

This was billed as a heritage tour and this is what we got, a lovely boat trip around the area and fascinating history from a local.

We thought Jim managed the tour and the guests well. We were grateful to him for ensuring a pleasant trip for everyone on board and making sure that we all could hear his interesting commentary.

We highly recommend Jim and his tours. If you are considering booking a trip with him I strongly encourage you to do so. I strongly recommend that you read all the reviews here and make your own mind up as to peoples' views of Jim and what he offers.

The Irish tourism industry has had an awful couple of years and deserves our support. My family and I were treated so well by Jim and were so upset to see such a potentially damaging review that, in our opinion, did not reflect the reality of the experience on board.

Hi Claire, I really appreciate your review as being the other group from my one star review, You highlighted points that I think are very beneficial to everyone including if you book a 1hr History of the Islands tours, this is what I talk about, It was a pleasure to have you all on board and look forward to seeing you again with your little helpers steering the boat, Thanks again Jim

Hi
We took a boat trip with Captain Jim today on board On Jane Elise with 4 kids and 2 adults on holidays . It was a most unpleasant trip . The captain Jim who the kids were looking forward to meeting was very grumpy , rude and raised his voice on 3 occasions in an unacceptable fashion and scared and embarrassed the kids . He made no effort to engage with anybody except to talk and pretend he was the ‘the smartest boy in the class’ and just loved the sound of his own voice . We were on holiday and trying to enjoy ourselves . To be honest we found Captain Jim to be very disrespectful and high handed . Someone most definitely stole his parrot !!!!!!
We were on a similar trip to Dingle pre lockdown which was superb and totally enjoyable .
Very disappointing to say the least.
We would not recommend ‘ CaptainJim’ to families or people hoping to have a good time.
With kind regards
A very happy happy family

Unruly and disruptive behaviour of passengers compromises the health and safety of all aboard a vessel at sea. Your failure to supervise your children aboard my vessel was irresponsible. I did not permit your children to hang outwardly over the gunwale of the boat where they could have been swept into the sea by a wave or passing vessel. Other passengers including yourselves, booked and paid for a guided marine heritage boat tour and that was precisely what was provided. I was thanked by the other passengers for intervening, their enjoyment and comfort should not have been marred by your failure to supervise your children. Antisocial, disruptive and dangerous behaviour is not tolerated aboard my boat.
