Wow! As a fairly experienced genealogist I was quite frustrated in the brick walls I encountered with my O'Neill and McMahon genealogies. Family tradition held that my O'Neills were from Ennis, Clare, and the McMahons were from Kildport, Clare. No such place, ever, named Kildport, and zero luck finding my O'Neills in Ennis. A parish Catholic baptism register I found from Labasheeda Kilmurry-McMahon opened a door, but then I was stuck. Well, Antoinette O'Bryen and her team at the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre busted that door, and all the brick walls, wide open. I not only received information on WHERE my O'Neills and McMahons were from, but the LOCATION of their land, homes (still there, great maps!), and the cemeteries where they are buried. What a joy it was to read the information!

Further, I had scheduled to meet with Antoinette at 3 p.m. on a Friday to receive the report. The plan was to drive straight to the Centre from Dublin Airport, and I should have had plenty of time. But delays, snafus, etc., precluded my arrival until 4:30 p.m. which, unbeknowst to me, was right when the Centre closes on Fridays. Ugh. But Antoinette, bless her, stayed an hour to go over the report, in detail, since she knew I was hoping to visit sites the next day (and the Centre is closed on weekends, and I was leaving the area on Monday).

I cannot say enough about the excellent quality of the research that was conducted by Antoinette O'Bryen and the team at the Centre, along with the kindness and compassion shared by Ms. O'Bryen. A truly exceptional experience. Highly, highly recommend!

I am thoroughly pleased with the history report I've received from Clare Heritage and Genealogy Centre. The staff was most accommodating where my particular case was concerned, because we'd been planning on traveling to Ireland and possibly County Clare during a British Isles cruise in June of 2020. Because of Covid and rescheduling multiple times, we found out last minute that we were indeed traveling in June of 2022. They put a priority on my family history report so that we'd know pertinent information before the cruise began. Annette called me multiple times to make sure that all information was correct and understood. I really appreciated the attention to detail and professionalism shown throughout the process. The details included led me to a new understanding of Irish culture and history, not to mention a deep appreciation for what my ancestors went through before and during their emigration to America. I would love to actually visit the Heritage Center on (hopefully!) my next trip to Ireland!

I was very pleased with my recent experience with Clare Heritage. My wife and I had visited Clare Heritage back in 2008, but at the time had decided not to proceed with our ancestry report. When I contacted them this year they were able to find the original request and information on file (14 years later!) and complete the report for us. Antoinette was very responsive, giving us updates, and then she and her staff delivered a very satisfying report. I would recommend their service to anyone wishes to expand their knowledge of their Irish roots...!

Next time I am in the locality I will definitely visit the centre. I have not done so yet but look forward to doing so in the future. My review therefore only covers the family history they produced on my behalf which was extensive and really helpful. I now know much more about my mother's family which I would have struggled to do myself and would probably never have uncovered half of what they did.

We traveled in May for our first-ever trip over to Ireland from the US. Prior to going I had contacted the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre for help in tracing the history of my grandparents who had emigrated to the US. We were connected with Antoinette via email and then met with her in person while in Ireland.
Antoinette was extremely helpful and shared with us the history of the Irish people who left their homes to forge a better life. It was a very emotional day for us hearing her share the stories.
With her help we were able to identify the exact location of the property my grandfather grew up on with his parents and five siblings. We were able to visit the church he was baptized in and his parents were married in.
One of my goals of our trip was to start gathering the information needed so I can apply for dual citizenship. (birth certificates, marriage, baptismal,...).
The CH&G Centre was able to get me certified copies of both of my grandparents birth certificates and is putting together a family history book for us. We're really excited to get then once complete.

Unfortunately, my Irish grandfather passed away before I was born so I had very limited information on where he was born and why he emigrated to America at the tender age of 14. I then discovered the Clare Heritage Centre and Antoinette O'Brien. They put together a very inclusive report which documented his extended family, their location in Clare, and the intermarriages which were the determining factor on where he eventually located in America. Antoinette's report was inclusive, detailed, and far-reaching. A real gem.

If you have an interest in researching your family in County Clare, there could not be a better place to start than with the Clare Heritage Centre and Antoinette O'Brien.

I‘ve been researching my family history for almost forty years now, and had come to a dead end with what else I could learn from the internet and various other sources. On a recent visit to Ireland, I went to the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre, armed with all the information I was able to obtain at that point about my great grandfather, Patrick Malone.

Ms. Antoinette O’Bryen assisted me with my visit. Although the pandemic caused some delays, the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre was able to come through with tremendously important family information that pinpointed my ancestor’s birthplace within a one-mile radius. Additionally, my great-great grandmother’s maiden name was uncovered, and I was able to extend our family tree another generation, now dating back to the late eighteenth century. The process is time-consuming and tedious, as the genealogists have to review information from 47 parish registries, with nothing digitized.

I am extremely grateful that I am now able to put together more pieces of my family tree puzzle, thanks to Antoinette O’Bryen and the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre.

My “visit” was virtual in that I asked the Centre to research my family history in County Clare. This month I received a very helpful report that positively identified my great great grandfather and the exact parish and area in Newmarket on Fergus where the family lived and from where my widowed great great grandmother and five children emigrated in 1866. Our family of eight is planning to visit the area in June, and the Centre’s report will help focus our search for our roots. Only regret is that the family homes has been demolished. However, we plan to visit the ruins of the parish church that the family almost certainly attended.
I encourage anyone with roots in Clare to avail themselves of the research services of the Centre.

The report on my ancestors from the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre was professionally prepared and extremely thorough. Antoinette O’Bryan was a pleasure to work with. She was very responsive and answered all my questions with patience and accuracy. I felt as if I was transported to 19th century Ireland and gained some understanding of what life was like for my ancestors because of the level of detail in my family report. I was provided with a photo of my great-great grandparents home from c.1900 and the location of my great-great-great grandparents home. The report also included the name of my closest relative in Co. Clare and a lot more. The Clare Heritage Centre and Antoinette O’Bryan far exceeded my expectations.

I read the report I received from the Clare Heritage Centre with great delight. It was beautifully done and presented. The depth of research done, thoroughness and amount of time spent is obvious. I can understand the waiting period now that I see the care and professionalism with which the report was prepared.

Yes, I am a tiny bit disappointed that the records don’t go back a bit further to provide more information on previous generations. But after seeing what was provided, I am assured that if a scrap of paper existed anywhere, they would have found it!

My thanks to them for their tremendous work, their never-ending patience with my persistent queries and their dedication to preserving this history and making it available to those of us who wonder about the family that came before us. Thanks to all of them!
