We tent camp a lot and have found most of the TN State Parks are run down and poorly maintained. Somehow Fort Pillow, out of the way, had the money to build a brand new camping area with 32 spaces. The camping area is very nice, large platforms with gravel to place a tent, steel fire pits set in concrete,... More

This park has some of the best marked hiking trails we've seen. There are even markers along the way to let you know how far you've been. Quite beautiful too.

Upon entering the park we were very excited to see a well maintained area, the museum and film were very nice. However, the hike back to the fort was somewhat of a challenge. The trail is marked but is not a well maintained, easily navigated trail, with several sets of steps up and down, and the foliage is very close... More

Fort Pillow State Park is the location of the infamous battle fought there by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. It was a beautiful day with the local dogwoods and wild phlox in full bloom. The park is well maintained. You end up a a small park museum that has a few exhibits of the battle and a 12 minute film... More

Near the Mississippi River with a lot of historical spots that you can view. The gift shop has a museum attached to it that has a lot of historical information in it. There are a lot of beautiful locations in the park and hiking trails for all different levels of hikers.

You will wonder if you're lost as you wind your way out to Fort Pillow State Park but you will soon discover that you are on a wonderful adventure far away from whatever you've left behind. The park signs will easily get you where you need to be but once you arrive, all bets are off. As soon as you... More

Fort Pillow conjures up many images in the minds of students of history. Brilliant victory? Hideous massacre? Well, don't expect to get the answer at this fine Tennessee State Park but do prepare to do some wonderful hiking. Although the Mississippi River has changed its course since the Civil War and the ground is now heavily wooded, it is still... More

One of my favorite overnight hikes. Hike in to the campsite with a water source and outhouse. Fantastic view of the Mississippi River. And the other trails are great too. I love the park rangers here, friendly and knowledgeable.

Learn the real events of what happened at Ft Pillow and how it has affected every war since then. It is a long winding road in the middle of nowhere to get to but worth the trip.
