I stopped by Craven's House while hiking on Lookout Mountain. It was around 4 PM on a Saturday and the house was not open. There's three large monuments on the property, One for New York, Ohio and Iowa. Plaques are around the property that discuss the history. Apparently this house was the command post for the Union Army and the... More

This house saw the battle first hand, it was used by both sides and was eventually destroyed. Rebuilt after and used again as a home, it is now a silent witness to the slaughter that took place in the front yard. While it is not open very often, the monuments, the views, the hiking trails all work in harmony to... More

We went up there one evening. What a view of the city. There are several Union monuments and walking trails. What impressed us the most was the Williams House next to the Craven House. It was built in the early 1900s and is slated to be demolished by the Park Service. What a shame!! The slate roof and architecture of... More

I went alone with my dog to Craven's House today on a beautiful April Saturday. I did find a parking spot but I will say the parking lot is not that big so parking could be an issue. Its on top of Lookout Mountain and the road to get there is a little hairy with sharp turns and small roads.... More

This property was destroyed in the Civil War and rebuilt shortly thereafter. One can see it from the city of Chattanooga below. The parking lot is a good spot to begin hikes, but the house was not open when I was there.

We visited the Cravens House but it wasn't open, however there are things to look at and hiking. We took some great pictures up there.

Cravens house was the start of my walk up to table rock. The house was closed, but history abounds at the house, grounds and surrounding areas. The drive up to the house from Chattanooga is exciting and pretty, once you leave the neon lights. The meandering narrow roads leading to the house are fun. There are several historical markers telling... More

If you are on Lookout Mountain,, you should make an effort to stop and see the Cravens House. The place was a retreat for the citizens of Chattanooga during the hot summers and was also involved in the Battle Above the Clouds. You can walk up to the top of Lookout Mountain from here is so inclined and there are... More

Well worth the drive up the mountain to see such an historical spot in our nation's history. The house itself was closed when we visited, but the grounds and other buildings nearby provided a most relaxing and interesting stop.

There is great Civil War history with this place, but the views make it worth it even if you aren't a history buff. There are a couple of well marked trails to further delights up Lookout Mountain.
