This is a beautiful park and campground area with a rich variety of views, including a giant damn, a large reservoir and a picturesque lake behind the dam.

The river and lake are beautiful with so much to do. The dam is also interesting and you can drive across it and take a scenic drive back to Yankton.

Are there horseback trail riding and/or ATV rentals near the park?

There are horse trails and a walking, bike trails. But no ATV. You can rent bikes but not sure about horses.
Are there places nearby (locals) that sell firewood? I realize the campgrounds will, but was looking for something larger and cheaper.

Yes. Along the State Highway 52 there are gas stations and convenience stores with firewood.
