If your interested in the Cowboy/Indian world this is the place for you. We stopped here with a large group and were amazed at how much there was to see in relations to the covered wagon era. We were here for over two hours and it was not enough time. There were people through out the center more than willing... More

This truly was a heritage center. It covered all the peoples that helped America expand. From the observation platform you could see Wyoming. Montana, as well as South Dakota. Wide variety of information and exhibits from indians to cowboys. We spent half a day here and could have stayed longer. Detailed exhibits of pioneer life, indian heritage cowboy exhibits. Organized in a sensible display by genres. Take your time going through the exhibits. Well worth the time and money. We made a donation on top of the entry fee.

Found this museum by googling things to see in Spearfish. Kind of out of the way and up on a hill with a gravel driveway, but an exceptional museum of the area and it's history. Very well maintained and exhibits are very informative and complete. We spend a couple hours here but could have spent a couple more easily but... More

It's new, large, educational and reasonably priced. It has sections on cowboys, Tom Selleck, movies, agriculture, history, Tom Selleck, cattle, guns, transportation in the old times and the inevitable jackalope. Oh, and did I mention Tom Selleck? To make sure you understand what a longhorn is, they have half a dozen of those stuffed inside plus a couple outside, grazing.... More

Building and grounds very nice. Workers very welcoming and friendly. Several small rooms to visit. Self guided. Each room done nicely. Lots of saddles and some really cool old tools. Took about an hour. Overpriced, but nice local museum.

My first clue was when I pulled into this museum in August, height of the tourist season, and there are no other cars here. We paid admission and we were the only people inside this museum, empty. There are a lot of artifacts (100 year old quilt) but they are not laid out or presented well. No flow, and not... More

We really enjoyed this place. On the day of our visit, they had a actor in their auditorium playing Seth Bullock. I don't remember the actors name, but did an awesome job portraying him. The place has more old west artifacts than I've ever seen in one place. A must see.

This museum is simply fabulous. The variety of the collection is only rivaled by the museum in Cody Wyoming. Simply not to be missed if you are visiting Spearfish.
