We are traveling across the country and had three days in Rapid City South Dakota . We went to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. Both must see’s . We had a free morning to explore and Trip Advisor recommended the Museum Of Geology ....More

Lots of mineral specimens and fossils. At the SD School of Mines in downtown Rapid City, they have great sources for excellent specimens. Gift shop has nice rocks for sale. Learn the difference between "fossilized" and "petrified". Be amazed by the fluorescent mineral display. There...More

We decided to stop by this museum which was a nice surprise. Staff is so friendly and helpful. It is not very large so you could go through it in 30-60 minutes. Free parking, free admission, nice displays and gift shop.
