It is not every day that you lose the Governor of a State but this moving Memorial in the Capitol Grounds doesn't just pay tribute to Gov. George Mickelson but also to his ill fated 7 companions, State Employees , Business Leaders , the Pilot etc. The bronze statue is a re-working of a 1930's wooden statue and symbolizes the... More

A memorial to Governor George Mickelson and 5 others who died in April of 1993 this is an incredible life size statute. If you are on the grounds of the Capitol you must take a few minutes to visit this.

Just a lovely memorial, full of energy and vibrance. A similar statue is at Crazy Horse Mountain as well, if you wish to view it sometime. This was a beautiful addition to the lovely State Capitol grounds.

Excellent sculpture to view on the outer boundaries of the South Dakota State Capitol Grounds. This is one area that must be seen by walking around the area.

To build a state from a wild territory takes passion, persistence and determination. This exquisite sculpture in memory of state leaders very accurately displays these characteristics.

A memorial to the 5 men that died in a plane crash, including state governor. I was surprised I did not remember it, but when I looked at the date ... I was out of the country at the time. Powerful rendition of stallions.

I liked the memorial and took pictures all around. Neat in its purpose for commemorating the men who died in the crash.

This sculpture is very beautiful and exceptionally detailed. It was sculpted by Korczak Ziolkowski who started Crazy Horse memorial near Custer, South Dakota. I hope that Crazy Horse will be completed in my lifetime, but it is doubtful. T. Denny Sanford gave Crazy Horse $10 Million to complete the horse's head. I hope that gets done in the next few... The sculpture was very impressive for it's detail. The setting was lovely. Learned something new from the story behind it.
