Hilton Head has a rich history of pre and post civil war. Photos tell an interesting story. Has Kid's room with hands on stuff to do. Extensive walking trail of the grounds. Includes butterfuly house to walk through.

This was a very interesting and informative look at the history of Hilton Head Island. There is a self-guided tour on a path all around the grounds with beautiful flowers and very nice people.

So much to see here at the Coastal Discovery Museum! I went with my garden club this spring to tour the camellia gardens and last August I took my cousins and their teenaged boys and they really enjoyed it. They have such interesting programs, including one where Joe Maffo brings small alligators, snakes and other animals to educate people about... More

You can learn so much about the area when visiting this museum. The story of the island and its people, the art, the eco system, etc. We come here whenever we are in town!

Went here with my wife and 2 year old and it was certainly a nice place to spend a couple of hours. Lots of interesting outside space and good for the little one to run around to burn off some energy. The old sprawling trees with the spanish moss are spectactular here.

Good self-guided tour with a fair amount of walking. Make sure you visit the butterfly enclosure, and, if you're there at low tide, check out the bazillions of tiny hermit crabs scurrying about under the marsh walkways. We did seem to pick up some additional bug bites while on the tour, but it's still a great place to visit and... More

Up and running after the hurricane. Great background for the island with educational information pertinent to the island. Live sea grass basket weaving.

My wife and I visited the CDM on a most pleasant Tuesday morning in May and stayed 2.5 hours. The exhibits on the culture, history, and development of Hilton Head Island are informative without being over taught. The self guided tour is easily done, well thought out, and extremely informative. From the marsh boardwalks, the butterfly garden, the insect house,... More

A surprisingly wonderful chance to learn more of HHI history and natural resources. Outdoor walk was really nice. Butterfly house was pretty cool. Bad directions at this time - don't follow the brown highway markers - as part of the acreage is closed (including the entrance) due to cleanup from Hurricane Matthew.
