Our favorite part of visiting was walking through the Camellia garden. We were also able to see a lovely Gullah Art exhibit and the chrysalis in the butterfly garden. I can imagine the butterfly garden will be lovely in the spring. We were disappointed that the Marsh Tacky horses had to be moved somewhere else. I think that is a... More

Amazing display of life in the past. Lots of diverse natural things to see, smell, tough. Easy to follow paths with lots of information. Worthwhile time spent - about 2 hours.

Coastal Discovery Museum is now open again after our recent Hurricane last fall. While a portion of the grounds is still dedicated to debris collection & removal...the museum has opened a new entrance off Hwy 278 before going under the cross island overpass. The museum offers a great variety of information on island history and fun as well as informative... More

I took the four grand-kids, ages 5-12, out to see Joe Moffo's critters and they had a blast! Walked around the paths and out on the docks. It was hoot to push the bird call buttons and have the real birds answer back. Then we went into the museum. They weren't keen on the art display but were fascinated by... More

Wonderful change from the beach scene, the house offers tons of information on the development of Hilton Head, the local coastal environment and cultural history of the island. Trails and boardwalks with education on the marshes, oysters where everywhere along the boardwalks. One of favorites are the huge southern Live Oaks, they are everywhere and so beautiful! This venue is... More

Wife and I visited and it was a really nice visit. The house was nice with a lot of information. The walk was good, probably 3/4 to a mile. The Camellia Garden was absolutely beautiful. The hurricane had done a lot of damage to the trees here. Would recommend visiting. Would be beautiful in summer when all flowers would be... More

Great interior low-country displays for adults and children. Do not miss during your stay! Some areas are closed due to clean up but you can still see plenty of outside venues.

Coastal Discovery is perfect for all ages and for those whose environmental knowledge ranges from emerging to expert. All the exhibits demonstrate an understanding of the audience and the science content. Trails are easy to walk; the store is fun to shop and the kitchen is dynamite. I contributed to help care for loggerhead turtle nest protection. And this year... More
