Nope, don’t bother
Oct 2021 • Couples
It was closed. Two gift shops were open. It looks rundown and we couldn’t tell if they are fixing it up or tearing it down. We really wanted to stop for food after seeing the billboards. The restaurant was closed and the one across the street didn’t look open or nice.

Great gift shops
Sep 2021 • Couples
It's been 20 or more years since I actually stopped at Pedro's even though I pass it on my route to the beach all the time. I needed a beach themed gift and hit the beach gift shop. It was clean, neatly organized and had exactly what I was looking for. I decided to stop in at the other shops. The exterior of the buildings do need some work but put this place back on your list. It will definitely be my bathroom stop and leg stretch place from now on.

Aging relic of a different time
Mar 2021 • Friends
Showing its age,South of the Border is a sign of a different time.
With their trademark “Pedro” all over , South of the Border isn’t aging well.
Some of their shops are looking shopworn and in an age of PC, I can see Pedro not wearing well with people that are younger,
Still, if you look at it as a stop for a break and as a relic from a different era, its not so bad,.
But that is being generous on my part,

Horrible place now
Sep 2021 • Friends
After over 30 years of visiting south of the border. I'm done with it. The greed has grown each year with this place. Alan Schaeffer's grandchildren. The heirs. Has destroyed it. We went back to try it again on Sept 2ed 2021. You can't get a room until 3 pm.you have to check out by 11 am or be charged for another night. Cable tv joke. Only garbage channels no body wants to watch. Maintenance vehicle's are are the same ones Alan bought before he died. They are now beat all to heck and adorned with graffiti. Real ghetto. We watched drug dealers in action just outside the pantry store. The back motel rooms are fenced off now and are rented out to permanent residents. Thet are so run down and the non running vehicle's and trash covering the properties is unbelievable. Nope we wont ever go back.

I remember passing the place on the way to Florida as a kid. Finally got to stop. OK for a short pitstop. Lots of collectible memorabilia if you like that chinzy stuff. Stopped to change drivers and a bathroom break. Bathroom is clean, bought some refreshments and left.

Sad and rundown
Aug 2021 • Couples
This is so sad to see it so run down. This has the potential to be awesome again, everything is there. This was something we had always wanted to see. We love kitschy road side attractions, wish there more scattered throughout the United States. South of the border disappointed us. The people in the stores working not friendly at all. Most everything there is closed up and what is not is overpriced junk. The statues outside some are broken, most need painted. We did buy an item, because we always try to support attractions to help them stay in business. If passing by keep going and please south of the border try to do some upkeep even a fresh coat of paint on everything would help and not cost much.

Not worth it
Aug 2021
Stopped here having seen the billboards for miles. Definitely did not live up to the hype. I wanted two things from this stop: to use the restroom and buy a ginger ale. I was disappointed on both counts. The restroom was usable, but dirty and scary (kind of like a dark, grungy basement). Their snack and drink selection was poor and the store was very sparse overall. I left empty handed and had a much better experience at the Pilot Flying J. Was not impressed with the "entertainment" or the facilities and will not stop there again.

Is this Radiator Springs (before renovation)?
Jul 2021 • Family
Although passing by on our road trips to/from Florida innumerable times, this was our 2nd time making this our pit stop. The last time it was to grab an overpriced, terribly tasting bite to eat and use a not very clean restroom. This time, we thought we'd give a big gift shop a chance... Nope! Still disappointed. Looking down the "main street ", I could imagine the colors, lights and smooth asphalt that once were there. In reality, looks like this place took on some seriously hard times. I was trying to engage my sense of humor inside of the gift shop, but the falling apart restroom inside it made it very challenging. I won't be surprised if on our next trip, there'll be no more lights on the Sombrero to great us anymore. Yeah, take a picture from the highway and keep going!

Good and bad
Jun 2021 • Family
We had a pretty good time. My daughter and youngest grandson came down for 2 days. Manager was very friendly. And helpful when I came by the office for anything. I depend on my mobility scooter for getting around. She always ran to the door to open it. If coarse I've learned to do things for myself. But she was so sweet to help. The Hispanic lady on the other hand was not friendly at all. She didn't want to assist my daughter with reactivating our door card the following day. Said she wasn't 3rd shift what ever that means. There is some run down sob motel rooms at the back of the property that dirt bike riders live in. Awful looking buildings with trash piled high and junk vehicle's everywhere. Even had a commodore sitting on a patio. The people didn't bother us. But it does make the place look awful. You can watch my video of it on YouTube. I didn't record the people because I didn't want to invade their home space nor embarrass anyone. My channel is web63 reviewer
