While a smallish museum, it is jam packed with really cool and unusual artifacts. It is worth a visit by anyone interested in the military, especially how it relates to South Carolina.

The histrory of the South Carolina militria is well covered at this museum with many displays & artifacts on site both in the enclosed museum & the outside area for really LARGE artifacts. The gentleman on duty the day we visited was very welcoming & knowledgeable. The museum covers prerevolutionary to present day. Well worth seeing by any military buffs.... More

This is a wonderful museum of S. C. military from colonial times to present day. There is NO COVER CHARGE but they gladly accept money donations at a few stations in the museum. They even have a neat display about S. C. troops and the Mexican Border conflict of 1916-1918. Very up-close viewing of all items. After seeing, I have... More

A real hidden gem of a military museum. Vehicles, guns. swords, photos, and other items from all wars starting with the Revolutionary War thru the modern Desert Wars. They have several beautifully restored German WWII vehicles. I was greatly impressed with the restored Bell H-13B helicopter especially when one of the volunteers showed me the photo album of its restoration.... More

This is an excellent stop on your Columbia, SC Museum trek. Lots of guns, weapons, artillery, uniforms, vehicles, and more to see. Wide open and well lit. Huge weapons collection. Make sure you stop here along with the State Museum, Confederate Relic Room, and Fort Jackson Museum while in Columbia. I heartily recommend all of them.

It is sad to think of the history of South Carolina and how little has been done to officially preserve some of it. The SC military history museum does just that, on the grounds of the National Gaurd station, they have a trmendous array of rare artifacts from the civil wat all the way to the most recent conflicts. The... More

My dad and I visited the South Carolina Military Museum after reading great online reviews about it and were very pleased that we drove the 1.5 hour trip to see it. The state and U.S. military history exhibits on display are very nice and informative. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and it a must see for any military... More
