Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to nearly 2,000 animals that represent more than 350 species from around the world. A visit to the Zoo will play host to an array of wild adventures from a diving expedition on a Pacific coral reef to a safari through the plains of Africa to an interactive Outback encounter with a flock of sociable lorikeets.

The Botanical Garden boasts 70-acres of unparalleled beauty and is considered one of the America's best public gardens. Dramatic and themed gardens showcase more than 4,300 species of native and exotic plants, providing a living classroom for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

The Garden also is the gateway to natural river views and spectacular valley overlooks. In addition, guests can view structural remains dating back to the early 1800s with South Carolina's textile industry and the Civil War.

I visited the place with friends. Since I am a biologist by profession, this place was very exciting and wonderful to visit. Its cool to see the variety of flora and fauna housed at one place.

The Riverbanks Zoo is convenient to our home. It is very hot and humid in the summer. The gardens were lovely, but the kids would rather see the animals, especially the birds. It's expensive to get snacks/food there, but pack a picnic lunch and enjoy!

We love this zoo and this time of year is Lights Before Christmas starting at 5pm until 9pm. The zoo has lights around the exhibits and a musical light exhibit at the entrance. This is a fun evening which includes Santa starting at 6 pm. The walk is fun and many of the nocturnal animals can be seen now. We... More

We did not visit Riverbanks this trip but have visited several times. I have been to zoos all over the USA and this is one of my favorites!

Riverbanks Zoo is a perfect family zoo trip destination. We drove 90 minutes from Ft Mill SC and we are glad we did. This Zoo is well laid out on flat terrain. It has a wide selection of animals, including (surprisingly) a farm diary. The four giraffes were a standout attraction-with giraffes eating lettuce out of kids hands. The sea lion... More

The light display was lovely and extensive. We were not able to see very many animals, which disappointed our grandsons; furthermore, the climbing wall and other special adventures were not open. But Santa's Village was cute, and the boys enjoyed writing letters to Santa. All in all, a fun outing.

Visited the zoo with my wife, daughter and her grandparents for the zoo lights. The displays were scattered around all of the walking paths. Many were themed after animals, some changed colors and patterns. Christmas music could be heard throughout the park. As their website indicated most animals were off exhibit for the evening (the lights ran 5-9pm). We still... More

My husband and I have been to many zoos and this one was a wonderful favorite after our first trip. I love that some of the exhibits are more engaging than other zoos and my neice was able to see the animals more up close. The kangaroos exhibit is one you can walk through with no fence between you and... More
