This is a very good tour and it's free!! There is so much of our nation's history in South Carolina and this is a fun place to start. We enjoyed the walk and reading about each piece of America's History.

I thought it was a great value, took about 2 hours, never felt like we were being rushed, Mike (the guide) took his time , answered questions, had amusing and enlightening stories about the war and the people. Glad we went, will sign up for historic home tours in the near future.

Jack's use of period pictures made the walk worth while but be prepared to walk. It was nearly two hours long and we covered a lot of distance. We lost nearly the whole group along the way, but we are really into history so we hung in there till the end. Charleston is so fortunate to have so many pre-Civil... More

There were 4 of us and we all learned something new. Our guide was wonderful; spoke off the cuff, nothing scripted (or he was a great actor). You could tell he was passionate about the subject. The time flew by.

Really enjoyed the tour. Even I, a History major, learned a lot about Charleston's side of the Civil War. The guide brings along old pictures of different areas of Charleston, and it is really neat to compare then and now.

My husband and I arrived in Charleston on Saturday April 14th and we had pre-booked the Civil War Walking Tour for 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning. We met with our guide John Young at Washington Park. This was the beginning of a fascinating and informative two and a half hour walk around the historic district of Charleston. John brought us to... More

As a history major I wanted to absorb this tour, learn and interact. All was possible. I was lucky enough to get a solo tour and found Alan to be not only knowledgeable, but insightful and personable. No question was too mundane or elementary. Slow down; take time to walk the streets of your history and be amazed by things... More

My wife and I visited Charleston during the 4th of July week and booked the tour with Alan, our guide, a few weeks in advance. The tour started in Washington Park and took us by foot around the city, to the wharf streets and back. In between Alan was a wealth of information about Charleston during the Civil War period.... My boyfriend and I spent a fantastic two and a half hour walking tour in June with Alan. We had requested that he shape the tour with Civil War history as its focus and Alan definitely delivered. The tour was at a reasonable pace (we're both in our fifties) and very logically laid out. Alan also brought along a book... More

Enjoyed the history on the city during the Civil War, especially the pictures of each site during that era. Good way to start a trip to the city. Our group was 7 people - not crowded.
